Changing user nameI read that after changing to the new user name, that the "old"user name remains in the profile so there is no confusion with other players. How long does the old name remain in the profile? If it remains for a long time or permanently, then it would make no sense to change a user name. Also, does the old user name become unusable to everyone in the future or can it be picked up by someone else or even used again a year later if no one uses it,or does the old name become permanently unusable in the future? |

make no sense?stay in the profile. For example, one friend of mine noticed that he misspelled the word he intended to use in his user name. |

I'm thinking more on the lines if my prior name is NOT misspelled and I simply do not want it around anymore, among other reasons,I can also think of several reasons that it would make no sense to have the name that I do NOT want "glaring"back at me from my profile. But thats besides the point. My main question is....How long will it remain,or will it become a permanent "tattoo" reminding me and other players that a change was made day after day, year after year. This is in addition to the other questions I have stated above.I think its cool to be able to change names once a year optionally if one wants to,but lets say I change it once a year for 3 years in a row. Will I have 3 names listed in my profile permanently?See my point?Or does the past name simply disappear after a while? |

I just want to know how it "looks"with a new name in the changed profile....since its my understanding that the "old" user name still remains visible somewhere. If I don't like the new "aesthetics" I wouldn't want to do it.So,I would like to view someone else's profile if possible that has recently changed their name.Any examples someone can give me? |

Not a fanI've already looked at a min-tournament today and saw a player that I didn't know who he was. Evidently I beat him twice, but I've never seen that name before. So I had to go out to his profile and figure out who he was. For me, I like looking at a name of someone and knowing my past history with that person. Maybe they comment on my annotations. Maybe we've played games before. Maybe I'm a fan of their chess puzzles. Maybe I find them rude or offensive. Whatever that history is, good or bad, I lose connection with that person when their name changes. Not a fan at all. No, I think something should be in place, on a case by case basis, where someone who misspelled their name could get the spelling error corrected. But it would be the same name, sans error, and we'd all know who that person is. I rather wish that this hadn't been implemented at all. |
