You WERE serious cyberknight999,thats why you said..."maybe Mike will let us make the color configurable".That does not sound like a joke to me!So don't try to widdle your way out of that one!!!Ha ha!Plus you said...."not that a few new ones would be a bad idea".So,again you are suggesting that the "color configurable" would be a good idea, regardless of the other toys on the site. Now,do not misunderstand me,i'm not saying you seriously want a color selection, but suggested it seriously as a possible option that Mike might allow or develop one day. So,no you were not actually joking. You will always be able to tell when i'm kidding with my trademark..."Ha,ha!"at the end of my sentences! Peace. TA

Yeah the green boxes get one's attention. How do we turn them off?
3253, Yes,I was initially wondering that myself!I'm not sure yet,but it seems that the green box by "my games" would not go "out"until I actually made my move and pressed the submit button. But i'm still experimenting,so i'm not sure.I have my chrome set to direct me right to my games list upon startup.Gave up on IE,no more.Chrome is better.Truthfully, when I think about it,i'm not so sure anymore if I like these new boxes showing up,but I guess i'd better get use to it and quick!

when the aggravation exceeds the pleasure, that is when we say good-bye
to my posts above: "wonder why it is that almost every day now the board color keeps resetting itself; frankly it makes me doubt that the programming will indeed keep other things intact -- such as the board position." and "now the Frequency of this unsettling deficiency has risen to 2 or 3 times A day. " there appeared this reponse: "Gameknot.com: shamash, the chess board settings (and many other user settings) are stored as "cookies" in your web browser. So if your web browser is "forgetting" your settings at random times, that means something is deleting "cookies" or otherwise corrupting them. . . " Well, it now occurs while I am on this site: each time I make a move in one game, then it changes colours on me. It feels very unsettling. So until this is resolved I will not be adding more games. And, sad as it is to end one pleasure, and start another elsewhere, am not likely to renew my premium membership. But I did enjoy the pleasures of this site while they lasted, thank you.

shamash, very sorry to hear that you are still having issues with losing your chessboard settings. Unfortunately we were unable to reproduce the problem you are describing using the most recent versions of the 4 top web browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox and Safari), and you are the only one who has reported this issue so far. Which likely means the problem is local to your computer, so it is not something that we can fix from our end. Furthermore, according to the technical info in the server log files, you are using a web browser that identifies itself as "Maxthon/3.0". Have you tried using one of the more common web browsers, such as Chrome or Firefox, to see if it fixes the problem? Also, please refer to the following page for general trouble-shooting suggestions that can help you with many web browser related issues: gameknot.com

All,I know is that I swore by IE for years, but recently threw it away forever.Too many issues lately with IE,too many viruses, even with my AVG security, too many white boxes, too much slow loading, too many windows closing down for no good reason. Then I tried google chrome. Its like the speed of a Porsche compared to a Volkswagon.I was also getting messages from IE that I could not play blitz on GK because I needed "adobe flash"loaded and updated.Yet I HAD the latest Adobe in my system,so that made no sense. So upon switching to chrome(and really just as a search engine with icon),I can now play blitz with no issues. The only mildly strange thing with chrome is that I have to turn up my speaker volume almost to the top in order to hear those move "thumps" as I call it,whereas with IE(when it was working for blitz),I had to keep my speaker volume way down, cause it was too loud!Strange, but it no big deal.

your gracious thoughts
GameKnot, thank you for your considerate and prompt response. Will try a different browser for making future GameKnot moves Yes! I do use Maxthon, a China-based browser. I use maxthon because it allow me to keep open about 3 dozen website pages at the same tiime, usually without crashing, and few browsers are so accommodating. Had used Firefox in the past, will see how that works. Am one of those who still misses Netscape -- though not Netscape 1 Thanks again!

Browsers
@shamash if having a lot of tab/winodws is a major concern I definitely suggest Firefox. Just recently I had a window open with 1300 tabs along with about 5 windows with 100 or so tabs open. So in total I had over 2000 tabs open at the same time! Granted I did have to go through several crashes to get to that number. But I wouldn't worry about that. Firefox only crashes at around 200 or more "new" tabs that are opened. By "new" I mean after you restore your seesion after a crash you can open more tabs without worrying about Firefox crashing. That's because the "old" tabs aren't loaded in memory all the way. Which means after you click on the tab you have to wait for it to load again. And yes I have picture proof that I had over 1300 tabs open! - Jeremy

I'm not sure I like all the flashing on my screen -- it's boring, quiet old chess after all. Especially the roll-in effect on the more options menu is insufferable

The blue highlight shading is nice when placing your pointer over the forum posts.Makes it a bit easier on the eyes when reading. There is also a border like rectangular frame edge that now appears around your profile picture.Personally however,I do not like the frame edge around the profile picture and avatar. This is just my opinion. To me,it gives the profile picture/avatar in the profile and in the forums a sort of like "pasted on" or stuck on look as if someone took a postcard and glued it on to a billboard or pushed a stamp on a letter and it has that raised edge.I preferred the original look which had a more perfectly fitting "blended in" look into the charcoal background. The look now with the borders on the pictures is almost like the old 1960's with that white frame around the pictures and as you know that was upgraded to a better looking borderless picture as the years progressed.Seemed more professional looking the original GK way.Again, just my opinion. But I like all the other new aesthetic features!

There is a problem with the "More Options" on the menu
I am running the Google Chrome browser on Windows 7. When I mouse over the the "More Options" item, the additional menu choices cascade nicely out to the right, but I only see the first nine or ten (depending on how large I have made the browser window). The remainder (about ten more items) are clipped by the bottom edge of the browser. If I scroll the main window, then sometimes the other choices become visible and other times they disappear before I can view or click them. I think it would be better if the sub-menu could be shifted upward to avoid being clipped by the bottom of the browser as the menus in Windows work like this. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this not a new behavior? CK999

I'm thinking they are still changing things, a few minutes ago while using my android tablet, full gk Internet version, in some of my games i couldn't see the pieces, they appeared like they usual do all garbled up when I'm on the message tab, but now when I was on the move tab. Other games I could see the pieces fine and do a move but there wasn't a submit button. When I logged out there was no lo-gin box, switch to mobile same thing, I was able to guess where the boxes were suppose to be and was able to log back on. Now it seems there is not a problem, so I think the upgrade process is not complete, at least they are still chasing bugs.

I think GK is now visually improved. I luv it!!! Thank you GK

Well, putting the picture aside for the moment(and I think the original way it was presented on the profile looked more polished and less "cheap"than it is now).... Wasen't there a notification previously on ones game list page that stated if the opponent offered a draw?I just accepted a draw, but I had no idea my opponent offered a draw until I clicked on the game itself and THEN seen the offer of a draw above the board. On the front page it just said "my move".But I could have sworn that previously it would state "draw offer" or something to that effect,so that I knew ahead of time BEFORE clicking on the gameboard page that a draw was offered. If so,i'd rather have that feature back.It would hasten my decision to rid my game list and accept a draw quicker, rather than not taking a look at the board until later with no knowledgeable draw offer known until I went into the board screen and found it out.Again, maybe i'm wrong, but I thought the draw offer notification was immediately visible on the front gameboard list and I did not see it in my last game draw offer just a few hours ago.

The menu issue...
Seems to be fixed in Win7/Chrome. Haven't checked IE, but I don't really use that browser unless I have no other options.
the menu roll-outs are nice but a bit slow...sure slows down the user experience. the new background and color changes are very nice. Looks really good, but feels a bit slower imo.

New flashy kind of highlighting last moves in diagrams, game
I do like that. Two very slight flaws - castling only shows the king moving, and captures don't show (the piece moving shows, but you don't see if any piece was captured) Is this something that can be adjusted?
Can you please explain what you are seeing.
I don't see any change in the highlighting of the moves.
If you hover over the icon just to the left of "game" in kingdawar's post, it'll show you the current (final) position in the game, and after a second's delay, the last move will replay (in this case, Kf2 for white)
Now I got it.
At first, I thought: That's not too useful, but then I decided that it's good for your "My Games" list so you can see your opponent's last move before you jump to that game. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. CK999
Nice observation cdeburca, previously, only the coordinates were highlighted with a coloured outline, but now there should be issues with captures, en passant captures, castling, promotions, promotions with a capture, ...
Also a very flashy download bar here: gameknot.com
Another little update is that every time someone posts to a thread you've posted in, you get a little message. That's new, I'm fairly sure? Now if we could just get my opponent's national flag in the My Games listing, I'd be very happy.
