Drag and drop of chess pieces
It is now possible to drag and drop chess pieces, in addition to the classic click-and-click method of moving them, on "analyze the board" page and with the puzzles. We wanted to make sure it works perfectly before making it available on the main game board page. The changes have been migrated from the new Blitz Chess v2, with several improvements based on your feedback. If you experience any problems or issues, please post your feedback here. Specifically, if you prefer one of the methods, do you find that the other method gets in the way, so to speak, or does it work fine for you? As usual, thank you, everyone, for your help!

The interference issue I sent something about before seems to have been resolved

Opinion on the methods ...
I'd just like to say that I much prefer drag-drop for blitz. But also much prefer click-click for turn-based games! Hope that is retained as at least an option. The reason I do not like drop-drag for corr games: sometimes the mouse will "stick", "overshoot" or for whatever reason put a piece on a square i do not want it, usually near the intended one. But of course, close does not count So click-click prevents that. Such an error is not so bad in blitz play, where I prefer to exchange such an occasional error for the added speed of DD. But to err so in a corr game with weeks/months into it, would seem a bit of a disaster. *** True, using the SUBMIT button will probably stop almost all such errors if it works for DD moves too. Still I might move carelessly, be distracted, and Submit without noticing. [One SHOULD NOT be that sloppy. But one Should Not wake in the middle of the night and make bleary-eyed moves on GK either. Still it happens! ] Anyway, I will feel more secure with the CLCL since then I have Two fail-safes working. [In analogy, clicking to DELETE something on your PC and it asks "Do you REALLY want to delete?!".] *** No problems in the blitz area with the DD there. Just that it seems to "stick" the piece to my cursor a bit more there than other sites. So I have to swing it back to the right square then click there again to drop. It may be that I am somehow clicking the SQUARE instead of the PIECE, or maybe letting it unclick too soon, so it thinks I want Click-Click!? If so, it must be my problem of adjusting to it. I'll keep playing and see if it improves soon. }8-)

Basically,my opinion is that anything outside of blitz should be the classic double click method since the game is leisurely paced and allows for precision while minimizing rare overshoots and double confirmation of your moves.Blitz is best in my opinion, with DD for speed and less fatigue on the fingers especially if playing alot of blitz games in one session. Many players must simply get more accustomed to using DD properly especially in blitz. Many times it is simply training your brain and forefinger to "release" just a millisecond quicker to accomodate the blitz board on GK.A lighter touch both in picking up the piece and releasing it(but more quickly)usually solves the "stick to"mouse pointer problem. I found that laser and other cordless mouses are NOT best for fast paced blitz, especially under 5 minutes and some of the newest overly light weight mouse designs are not best for blitz. The slightly heavier raised older mouse designs seem better to me by allowing a steadier solid movement on the blitz board and your desk and preventing less "skid" type overshoots.Laser mouse has many problems with blitz when quick DD slids are necessary, external light interference affecting the laser mouse and of course any battery in a cordless mouse will wear down alot quicker when constantly using it in blitz eventually slowing down and freezing in the middle of a game, which is a disaster. The bottom line is that DD is the best for blitz,no question about it.

Hmm...
Despite the almost complete lack of interference issues I would like an additional option in the board menu where you can choose one of the following possibilities: 1, standard: both clickclick and dragdrop 2: clickclick only 3: dragdrop only

Reason
I might give a reason; it is confusing when you are intending to use the first method and end up using the other one.

My opinion is that there should be both clickclick and DD on the site, but NOT options in both the corresp area and blitz room.Just click click in the corresp.area and other areas and ONLY DD in the blitz area, this way avoiding any confusion as to choices. This way a player will get accustomed to mouse styles quickly with no confusion.Less choices is sometimes better,I believe.Slide=speed=blitz which one's mind can train itself on and clickclick=slow=corresp. which is easy to remember for appropriate choices.

additionally,
In corresp. play as opposed to blitz, one does not have the "need for speed",thus really no need for sliding quicky or slowly.I myself would only use clickclick in corresp to be absolutely sure where my piece dropped with no overextending especially if I tired or trying to make multiple moves with conditionals in several games at once.Clickclick is sort of like putting the brakes on in your car where travelling through an area like a school zone or cones is necessary to avoid mistakes, even if the chances are remote with the submit button.

I'd like the dragdrop
in the corr. environment too, as an option, as proposed above the user can enable or disable.

While I'm not sure if I'll permanently use this feature, I'll certainly try it. Different options for different players, just like how you can change the look/feel of the board and pieces.
