delay
I have noticed that some people when you are following their game, have put in a 3 or 2 move delay. for what reason is that. I cant find for myself a reason why I should do this. Not meaning this negative just don't have an idea...

One reason
The first reason I can think of is that this way it is more difficult for people to interfere with the game. Say I know you and in one of your games you got a mate in two, I could PM you and tell you. This way I wouldn't be able to see that position until you either finished the game or missed the chance. It is a security measure. Maybe it could be said that to delay the view of your game this way shows a paranoiac state of mind, but I'm sure that the situation I stated has happened more than once.

indeed that could be one.never toughed of that.it's the first time I notice it.do you think much players set up the delay?

Don't know
I know I've never set it up and I've never found out that my opponent was doing it. I guess it is not very common, but I think it is a good feature anyways.

The only time I have deliberately delayed a game was because of work. I didn't have time for as much chess as I usually enjoy. My only options were to time out, resign, or delay until I had time to play my best. I chose to delay. In certain other games during that time frame, the move was not so difficult to figure out. So I continued to play when I could, while delaying others. I don't make a habit of this, but it is an option to manage large numbers of games. I think my opponents appreciate being able to play me at my best. Hopefully we are talking about the same thing. Or is there some feature on GK that I don't know about yet?

Yes, it is actually a different feature. You can have your game in progress show up to the world delayed. That is, gk.com will only reveal to the public all the moves except the last 4 (or whatever it is, I'm not sure). In this way, others can follow your game without having to wait for it to be completely over first, but they will not know the last several moves so if they were to cheat and give you advice most of it would be useless. This also lets you talk about your game a bit more freely because you've presumably made it out of whatever tactics and strategies were in the position that is available to the public. By the way, I'm just trying to explain the facts and general ideas. I'm not giving my opinion one way or the other (at least not yet).

The 3-move delay is mainly there to prevent any unwanted outside interference.

And . . .
. . . to reduce copycatting in thematic Mini-Tournaments.

I'd like to use this feature! Some people have copycatting other games that I was playing at the same time. It wasn't a huge deal because I usually outsmarted them in real time; but it was a lot of work...time that I usually don't have.

Cool! I found it in game settings. That may be a very useful tool for me in the future. Thanks tons for pointing it out.
