Missing chess pieces.I have read some help information which I thought could be relevant. Ie I run Mozilla Firefox web browser, so I cleared private data and I disabled pluggins. None of these had any effect. Also the problem appeared suddenly, and I had not modified my software in any way when the problem occurred. Also I am worried I will lose my current chess games. Thanks. From Russell. |

Just curious what version of firefox are you running? Make sure and try to clear ALL data. If this does not work try to make another firefox profile (account) see if the problem persists... or Delete Firefox and all files. Reinstall and check. |

Also it may be only a temporary problem with GameKnot having a hiccup |

dreamglotton ~ But what They don't Tell Us . . . "Ie I run Mozilla Firefox web browser ... the problem appeared suddenly, and I HAD NOT MODIFIED MY SOFTWARE IN ANY WAY when the problem occurred. " .................................................................................................. * * * * * Don't take my word for this, since I Could be wrong, and don't want to get into any trouble over it ... so you might consider this more of an Opinion or Unsubstantiated Rumour from someone who does not have much computer understanding, rather than being a solid fact. *** With that disclaimer made, let me say that I Believe all of us using Mozilla FireFox may probably be having our software subjected to potential modification, anytime we restart the program and it calls in to it's home site to connect us; that it uses automatic updating now, which does not ask us "Do you mind if we add to or modify your FF?". It looks to me as if it is even trying to update aor download to me during sessions of use, since I notice that often lately my FF Process Percentage of CPU utilization will shoot up over 40% for periods of time, when I can see no reason for such increase based on anything that I am doing on the browser at the time. And it seems to choose quite frequently lately to freeze-up & become 'non-responsive' to the extent of seeming to subvert any/all other functions attempting to run at the time. Not even allowing such action as pulling up Task-Manager immediately, if that is not already up, to shut down the process or see what froze me. *** As you might imagine, this is getting to be more trouble than it is worth to use their browser, imo. And so I am in the process right now of saying good-bye to FireFox; good-bye to updates unrequested or unapproved by me; good-bye to silly software (non)compatability conflicts with another browser/search-engine; and hoping also it is then "good-bye" to my multi-minute freeze-ups as well and the ruin of any of my online gaming efforts caused by that. *** |

So no issues ever with me using IE.Funny that most issues I read in the GK forums are usually from people that use Firefox....you would think it would be the opposite!I do know that FF has some site compatibility issues that long standing IE does not.Hackers will target more popular browsers like IE...this is a fact,BUT as FF becomes more popular,I think this will change in the future. Sometimes its the quality of your computer and what type of internet server you are using that is the real issue, not the browser. My computer expert friend told me for example, that using the super high speed cable modems can also thrust alot more viruses at you than using 3.0 DSL like I use. I know very little about computers, thats for sure, but I do know about "results".... and using IE has never given me even one virus and has never given me an operating issue in any way on GK.Years ago when I had a 1 Ghz laptop and a slow dial up server using an older IE version,I encountered alot of problems, you name it.But now, with my quadcore,Vista and the newest IE,no issues have surfaced.Yet,I am aware of what I read on the internet about FF advantages, but it is not logical for me to switch to FF if I have no problems with IE.And after reading the forums with a few of you having what may be FF issues on GK,i'm definitely NOT switching to FF! Just some food for thought. |

I use Ubuntu Linux so internet explorer is not really a possibility for me, even if I wanted to use it which I don't. I think the problem probably had its origins in a slip of the mouse on my laptop rather than an automated change of settings. Thanks for help and replies. |
