Problems with tactical puzzlesMy solution was ... QxN +, K moves, and Bishop takes queen. I lost a lot of points because it wanted me to play ... BxQ RxQ BxN+, followed by B takes R. My way takes his queen and keeps mine, leaving me much better off. Problems like these need to be eliminated. I am sure others must have had the same situation. I expect this will get fixed as GK fine-tunes this wonderful feature. |

White simply plays Qf2 and you only captured a Knight instead of Knight+Rook. We've received several dozens of similar reports of "bad" tactical exercises, however, every time we manually checked the proposed alternative solutions, it turned out there was something the player simply overlooked in their analysis, and there were no issues with our solution at all. With one exception which I described in the other thread, but that problem has already been fixed. We still very much appreciate everyone's attention to this brand new feature and the extra scrutiny it receives, but I just wanted to reassure everyone that it is much more bug-free than it seems some of you believe. We do test everything internally for some time before making new features public. |

Here is one I foundWhite is a whole Rook up. After the move 1. Kd8, the exercise begins. Black's first move is obvious, since it's the only checking move, 1...Qf8+. Then White replies with the astounding 2. Kc7?? after which the double attack 2...Qc5+ is very easy to spot. But White can simply play 2. Kd7 and Black is hopeless. |

ah nyctalopbut Kd7 leads to at a draw for black. (i think i can hold that draw..) so i would not say black is hopeless. it s just a win win situation for black in what seemed a hopeless game |

Alternative scoreScore: +12.96 Alt: +8.69 Score: +26.41 Alt: +18.50 Score: +23.48 Alt: +19.38 "Can you win this position in exactly the same way as my computer?" In the other thread it is advised by you to rate all such exercises 1 star. But at the same time we aren't allowed to star-rate problems that we failed. Moreover, it is not so much a matter of beauty, it is a matter of sound/unsound - just like with the mateproblem section. In there a problem is deleted once it is shown 10+ alternative ways work too. In this new tactical exercise thing already one single alternative should completely disqualify the position to be shown to a solver, right? Because there are no retries and there is no way to add alternatives - the computer should already have seen all of them anyway. |
