What's happened to tactics?
Has anyone else noticed that tactics have just gotten a whole lot easier to do?
Or is it just me getting very good very fast? (Doubt it!)

The tactic's true ratings are increasing
In the beginning all tactics started with a rating of 1200 ... so did the players. But the consequence is that in the beginning you could get a very hard tactic with rating for eg 1400 because it was still miles away from its actual rating that matches its difficulty.

The more people play a specific tactic, the more accurate its difficulty rating will be so now we enter the situation that most really hard tactics no longer show up on our list to solve. Only the better players get them now.

Kiwisouth ...
Have you made your settings the most difficult? Setting are clickable just beneath the START TRAINING button ... and you can move them to only access Problems that are no more than 50 points below your Tactics-Rating, but are up to 500 points higher than your rating. That is as difficult as it can be set for.

Perhaps the Default Settings on yours made easier ones available, when the ratings were implemented?

well believe me wen i say those tactics are easier then before..

those really hard ones are disappeared from my radar. you know those where you can think for a hour and still pick the wrong move out of the 2 best moves

I hate those but i also love those because i have to work hard to get them solved..if it is all easy it is getting boring fast. and i refuse to be bored.

Easy19 ... what's in a name huh :-)
... Now if they are easier for you at the moment then you will get most of them right and increase in rating. And when you increase you get more difficult tactics , right? So keep on solving them and you will get you're beloved very hard tactics ...

I can see you're pretty high allready but there are still about 400 rating points difference with the top so .... Go for it

ah ... levellerlevvie
I think that Kite is not going up.

My settings are set on 500 + and -50 but the highest rated puzzle i encounter are between 1850 to 2050
and so far they are not as difficult as before. so i doubt i will get exercises above 2100 that have a solving percentage of less then 10% and cost me more time then these i have done today.

So that would mean ....
... that most (very hard) tactics still are not on there true rating and are hidden somewhere in the bulk of tactics rated 1900 and above.

So at this point you must be lucky to encounter them.

Maybe an interesting question ... What's the highest rated tactic someone has solved or encountered so far? Apparently somewhere over 2000 , maybe 2100 ...?

The thing does seem to be shaking down...
... after a fairly indifferent performance in the early days, I have missed only one of my last 24 exercises (95.8% success rate). I suspect the settings might have somethng to do with it.

What is pleasing is that most of them I'm solving from the diagrams (i.e. not using my magnetic chess set); and, with a few exceptions, getting the answers faster than the average time. I am now recommending that players try these exercises for developing a consistent tactical feel.
