membershipyears. The short answer is 'Yes, your past games become available.' Having said that, only 8 of my first 50 games showed up, the rest apparently having been deleted. After that, there is perhaps 6-10 games per page which are not available, so roughly, I have access to 80% of my past games. I have found it instructive to go over some of the old ones. There are more than a few which I blush over now, and the odd one where I played with a pizzaz which is now absent. Having access to extra computer analysis is also a good thing for me. |

It depends on your rating and timed-out gamesAbout your games, I count 21 games that aren't stored anymore. I assume most of them were timeouts, but there are a few that may have been real games (i.e. two of three unrated games have disappeared and one loss in 23 moves as well). The good news is that the other 115 are still there. For non-premium guys with a rating lower than say 1400, this "survival" percentage is considerably lower. |

Past games taken up a few notches...If,for example an upcoming opponent(or one that I was searching for)had 9 wins and one draw by playing a Chigorin Variation(that I could find anyway)and his rating was within a certain parameter of rating points of mine(generally above 2200).....I would NOT play that Chigorin against him and steer my pieces in a far different direction!Sometimes in the direction where he LOST in a specific variation.Sometimes I know MORE about an opponents past games than he knows or even checks himself! Quite an involved strategy and time consuming, especially going through a great # of past games from some opponents that I may not even challenge! But then I also keep a record of all my searches,so I do not do a double search in the future, except an updated one. One may argue that, well, your opponent can do the same to you!But that would be rare, due to the time consumption, plus I have a special database for that, but then i'm not going to tell you everything! Do I take my chess seriously? As serious as the US military defending Democracy! TA |

Software? The reason I want access to my GK games is to build a personal database. Interesting that you would mention that. I have most of the games copied on paper, and could enter the games move by move into ChessBase or something (I said "could" not "would") ... but importing the pgn files would be much more reasonable. Do you have any advice on software you use for your database or is that a TA trade secret? ChessBase stuff is so user unfriendly. Thanks, Dragon |

I have my own custom software which was designed for me by my computer engineering friend so I can't help you there.I'm no expert on "retail"commercially available software,so I dare not suggest anything in that area. But perhaps if you check in the Chess Related forum under "Best Chessbase Product"...you will find easy 19 forum post on 2 links which is megabase 2003 and downloading PGN files.Perhaps that will assist you better?Seems that it helped freddy,so it might be what you are seeking.
