Message about Adssomewhat amusing because I was staring at two ads on the page telling me I was blocking ads. I know I am not using any ad blocking software and my default browser is Google Chrome. Any thoughts? I realize that the service needs money to operate, but I really can't afford a premium membership at the moment, and would hate to be punished when I'm not breaking any rules. I'm posting here because I couldn't find a 'contact us' link to reach someone from Gameknot. |

When someone has a free membership on GameKnot, it implies that the account is paid for by the advertisers. If the ads are disabled on the user's computer, unfortunately that means we are unable to provide a free membership to that user, and they would have to subscribe to a premium membership or enable all ads. There are a lot of different software packages that are capable of blocking ads, sometimes even when you don't expect it. There are even web browsers that come equipped with an ad-blocker by default. We have no way of knowing what blocks ads on the user's computer, so we can't really provide any help with how to enable ads on a particular computer. All we see from our end is that even though the HTML code for the ad was on the page, the user's web browser never downloaded the images and/or associated files for the ad. It can even be because you are using a beta version of a web browser that is broken or an old/unusual web browser that simply doesn't support some feature or technology that is required for the ads. It is certainly your choice which browser to use, but once again, we have to pay for the servers and the staff somehow, so it has to be either ads or a premium membership. There is simply no other way (other than closing GameKnot altogether). As far as seeing ads and getting the warning anyway — that simply means that not all ads are blocked and that the ad-blocker on your computer isn't completely working or only partially disabled. Once again, the ads are simply necessary for us to be able to provide a free membership, so if you don't want ads, or can't make sure they are working, please simply subscribe to a premium membership to support the site. We would certainly appreciate it a lot. |
