Cyrano is back on top
Well done, good come back, I think he must have gained 100 rating points or so since I last checked to see.

Yes, I think cyrano deserves the top spot because he takes risks against lower rated players as well as playing a lot of games at a time and having a good record against high rated players too. Well done, cyrano.

I was impressed with Rodog's win against cyrano a while back, so I'm glad that him and high are making the top spot difficult to hold onto.

easy
to hold on to the top place when you play under 10 games like rodog does. Cyrano is the best player at this site. He plays many games at a time and shows a great deal of talent with a high ranking and a great deal of wins.

nathan
Everyone has different playing methods. For a long time, I played 1 game at a time because I wanted to keep focused. There's a trade-off when it comes to playing against many lower rated players. The risk of point loss for draws or losses is high, sure, but to an extent I'm sure those games are more like practice to him.

Not saying that one way is any better than the other, and I'm certainly not knocking cyrano's games. I'm just saying that different people have different preferences, and that one isn't necessarily all that better than the other.

I'm not opposed
I'm definitely not attacking or opposed to different playing styles at all. I play slow. I respect playing styles and people for sure. I'm saying that what Cyrano has done is HARDER than Rodog's play, because keeping 100 games running and winning that many of them is much more difficult than playing less than 10 and winning them.

And Rodog has played people with higher rank, but you've got to realize that this is only because when you participate in practically every tournament there is (GK) and leagues you are bound to play players of lower ranks more often. You can hardly fault someone for that. He has played ALL the players Rodog has played and beaten them on various occassions. He's just played other players as well and done well in those games. And Rodog attacks Cyrano for playing lower players. Hey, I have friends and that I like to play. I don't do it to inflate my rating, but because I like to play that person. It's hardly fair to attack Cyrano for playing friends whether they are lower or higher ranked or to look down on his OUTSTANDING record just because he has an average opponent rank that is lower mainly because he takes far more risks and is willing to teach others. He also plays others due to tournament play that Rodog doesn't do because he isn't willing to take the risk.

That is why Cyrano is by far the better player....the best on this site.

...
At higher ranks, GK chess is no different from OTB chess: the only way to determine whether a player is better than another, is to have them square off in a match of several games. Statistics and ratings can only tell you so much.

Sì Chessnovice farò il mio meglio per parlare certo italiano.
Solitamente non gradico gli italiani che facciano a molto rumore.
Ma qui su Gameknot penso che il wil di rumore non sia a duro

I hope it is readable.

Cyberknight: Not Exactly Correct
0% losses is not zero losses--though Cyrano is a terrific player, he actually has lost with White on GK (check his past games list and you'll see them), but with 600+ games with White, up to 3 losses would round down to 0% *grin*!

Cyrano......
.....absolutely ROCKS. Anyone on this site as long as I have been would most probably agree. He is a Master player with several OTB IM norms. He has no problem playing us class players, and is a true gentleman. He plays his games between his ears, not with computer assistance like so many near the top of the list. I tip my hat to you sir....you are a great ambassador for both GameKnot and chess in general. 2613 is some rating! Keep up the good work Soren

Tag, are you confusing Cyrano ("Afro") with Cairo ("Soren")? Soren is an ICCF IM with SIM norms (and incidentally Rodog is an ICCF SIM as well as a noted "centaur" player), but I've never heard anything here at GK about Cyrano being an OTB Master with IM norms. Of course, there are LOTS of true things that I don't know, though I DO know that Cyrano has played some very fine games here!! Anyone have more info on this?
