 Blitz short/long game mate(s)Here is one I just had a few minutes ago.I felt I should post it,because it is a rare one that I have perhaps only once every 2 years or so.What makes it special is that I sacrificed my Queen in the opening,like I do once in a while,but rarely mate my opponent after I sacrifice the lady in less than 10 moves!The opponent has a decent 1845 rating,but he is still provisional.Nonetheless,here it is: Blitz:3 min,no incremental time White:I have arrived(2498) Black:qccorado(1845) 1.e4,c5 2.Qh5,d6 3.Qxf7+?,Kxf7! 4.Nf3,Nf6 5.e5,dxe5 6.Bc4+,Be6? 7.Ng5+!Kg8? 8.Bxe6!Mate Notice blacks move #6.Be6.In fast 2 or 3 min blitz this seems to be a common mistake that many of my opponents take.(Black SHOULD have moved 6.....d6,but did not.)Its a defensive reaction(6....Be6) in over hasty time pressure.While that move did not cause the mate,it still would have wittled down blacks piece point advantage to around 5 points.Then a few more tactical moves and increased faster piece drop clicks usually clenches a win for me,when I frequently time-out my opponent.Black could have moved 6....Kg6 or 6....Ke8,but either way,blacks white square Bishop has a double attacking capture problem with both my Bishop or Knight...then a Queen attack by my Knight or no Queen attack if I take blacks Bishop with my Bishop.But black made the fatal Kg8 move as you can see above.So a Queen sacrifice and a win in only 8 moves.So many players laugh at me after I sac my Queen in a 3 min game,confident that they will win.The comments come in all the time.But many of you would be surprised that they can "talk the talk"but as Freddy says..."can they walk the walk"? And no,many times being overconfident and way to hasty,they cannot do either!Let me note,however,my opponent in this game made no negative comments at all.Infact,he commended me for this quick mate,so next time,i'll play him straight up!
