opinions on chess tutorial software/ books
I'm considering chess master to improve my chess. Is there better software? I've read a few books and I feel like I'm improving but I've been playing fast games at another site... I don't use java... and I find that even the lowest rated players beat me. If I don't have an hour to contemplate a move i might as well throw a dart at a board.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You can get one of the older versions of Chess Master pretty cheap on the Internet, if you can't
afford the latest. Fritz plays better chess than Chess Master, but that's probably not important
at our level. Chess Master is certainly more user-friendly, it has good tutorials, and you can
set it to a wide variety of playing strengths. It's not compatible with Mac computers, however,
no matter what it says on the box.

Chess Tactics Art (CT-ART 3.0) is a great software package for learning tactics.

Look for Chess Tactics Server on the Internet. I don't know if it requires Java or not, but it sure
is a great learning tool. You can spend as long or as little time as you want using it, so it's
perfect for your schedule, and it's free.

Mac - shema
Chessmaster 9000 works fine on my Mac mini and my older powerbook. Your mileage may
vary.
