WARNINGS! ...for online Chess players
I would like to develop a list of "Do Not!'s" for online Chess players. Perhaps tape it on the fridge; just for those days when common sense may be sleeping, or i am just not quite up to speed on the technology. Of course I know that none of You would Ever ... But just for me, Please Advise~!

Never, ever, ever, ever . . .
* Give your computer a bath ...
* Set it on the TV set while you play Chess and watch VH-videos. (Tho this might be interesting with a wall mount/flat panel ... no wait, I never said that !)
* Send it out for an MRI to see what's wrong
.......................
You wouldn't of course. But if -I- did, I would lose my d-base (if I had one) and maybe even Connectivity ~!

ummm....
Is it OK if you give your computer a shower?

WEll it hard to say X-m ...
If you lived here in America, of course there would be a Label telling if you cannot shower your computer. I think it is from the National Safety Council, unless of course you are talking about showering With your computer, then maybe Ralph Nader is the one to ask, tho it seems he deals mostly with how to keep citizens intact when they encounter objects that should not be put: in them, thru them, or on top of them. And I guess you are not talking about one of those while in the shower ... So I'm not sure.
Maybe it is just one of those things, like eating those silicon-moisture-sorbers that come in the vitamin bottle ... We will have to see how many kickoff before deciding if it needs a label, and who to put to the task.
But wait, i am forgetting you are in the UK where I think the emphasis is different. Here we just weed out those unsmart enough to read the labels telling them not to use a desktop in the tub (Like you might think of if the laptop battery goes out for instance) and so reduce the illiterate. But in UK they don't they just put everyone on a Roundabout & see if they know where to getoff ? AND you are not supposed to NEED LABELS if you pass that test, right?! So what are you asking Me FOR ??! ... }8-O

haha.... I don't know...
It's been so long since I've been in the UK that I forget their policy of desktops and bathtubs
well, at least I know where to get off at a roundabout (or...I think so? lol)

I'm in Singapore right now.... where they would have a long, detailed list of places not to place
the computer;

23b) Your computer may not be placed in any one of the following places;
- A bathtub full of water
- A sink full of water
-an empty bathtub (where one may accidently turn on a tap
- An occupied swimming pool
-an aquarium

And the list goes on! [strangely enough, there is no mention of not putting a computer in a
shower  ]

So in Singapore, you can't put a computer in an empty bathtub because you might turn it on, but you can put the computer in an unoccupied swimming pool, even though you might accidentally occupy it?! I don't know if things work there as they do here in the USA, but I smell a lawsuit...

Also, remember that the oven is a bad place to store things.

Here in the UK, there is a sticker on the back of my desktop...

WARNING - May contain nuts.

And to get off a roundabout, turn left.

Tugger lad, I'm sorry about this, BUT you see ...

hmm
my computer was running slower and slower so i gave it some coca cola..

And guess what all the lights where blinking like crazy!! it must be working..?
But the lights annoyed me more then its slowness so to turn them off again.
I started a flash bios update and switch the computer off wen it was on 34% of the update and guess what the lights stayed off. but now i have some weird beeping noise.

Perhaps a hot sauna will help..

Ahhhh,but x-machine,
We Americans think you guys in the UK and elsewhere drive on the wrong side of the road!Ha,ha!(But l know you don't drive yet!)
Lets see that statistics:66% drive on the right side of the road with all countries combined and only 34% on the left side!In addition,72% of total world road distance carries traffic on the right and only 28% on the left!Proof?See below:

en.wikipedia.org

Most people write with their right hand too!Is that a hint?Ha,ha!
No wonder I almost got in an accident last year when I was in Bermuda! Those left sided driving circles are murder, especially on a moped!

oh, and @ easy19... you're doing it wrong - you should never give coca-cola to ANY form of computer

You should give it Pepsi - much more healthier for them

TA - You might find that while the majority of drivers around the world do indeed drive on the right, they never used to. In England, the Romans rode their carts on the left, so that a sword can be drawn with the right hand, while the reins held with the left hand. America switched because the wagons in use at the time for hauliage were drawn by lots of horse in pairs, and since there was no central driving seat, a rider would prefer to sit on the rear left horse, so that the reins could be held with the right hand. He would then ride on the right side of the road so that he could ensure wheels did not clash when passing traffic.

It seems that early on, left hand drive was dominant, probably due to the success of the Romans and then the British Empire, and there are many theories why right-hand became more dominant. One theory is that conflict was more likely if traffic passed to the right, because swords are closer, and so nations switched to reduce conflict. It's also suggested that countries that Napolean conquered were forced to ride on the right, as they did in France, and possibly because of his hatred for Britain, who ride on the left. But certainly most nations that switched in the 1900's did it because their neighbours drove on the right. Germany and France drive on the right, so lesser nations surrounding them follow suit, which absorbs most of Europe. There are some cases of switching due to independance from an occupier, but most of these seem to switch back to left-hand traffic, such as Okinawa after the US occupation ended.

There is no right or wrong way. You become conditioned to your surroundings, and so the "wrong" way is the way you are not used to. It would be very difficult for a developed nation such as the UK or USA to switch now, obviously because of the huge number of people conditioned to drive on the side they have to. So it's very likely that our nations will continue to drive on opposing sides for a long time yet.

It could be ...
because we pounded our "Swords into plow-shears" ?! So I guess it must be easier to swing a plow-shear lefthanded . . .

I had this idea too ... so okay, I put my pc in the dishwasher. But what's the deal with hand washing externals ??? Why not just pop that case in the CAR-WASH !! Steam cleaning does wonders

PS ...
but it goes without saying ... to drive on the Right-side cannot be Wrong. But I give you this, the English are Much politer than Americans about making way to let someone in. Especially head-on ...

Tugger,
Yes,tugger,as Wik and other sources state...most traffic did, indeed drive mostly on the left in the past.I never said that driving on the right side was the "correct" or better way to drive.I only stated "statistics"of how many drive on the rt. as opposed to the left.Due to statistics alone,it is logical for many in the world to think, that someone in Singapore or the UK would be ALSO on the wrong side of the road.I am quite aware of the history of why drivers drove on the left, but I am also aware of the various facts of why drivers chose to drive on the right side of the road.

It was x-machine,(see above)not me that initially wrote...."you americans drive on the opposite side of the road,I think".Opposite?Hmmmm, lets think.....no,its time to state who is "opposite" by volume! So in response to HIS remark,I had to state the true statistics of the situation. But notice my "ha,ha"remarks, which shows that I am not serious(or really do not care, except for my near accident!)....when I did say that we Americans think you guys in the UK or elsewhere drive on the "wrong"side. When, however someone states,(like x-machine)that he believes American drive on the "opposite"side of the road, then it becomes NECESSARY to sometimes state reality statistics!
Again,I agree, there is no right and wrong way to drive in this situation, but it is only natural for the majority of world drivers to actually think a "right or wrong" scenario based upon the sheer larger numbers of which direction the majority of drivers proceed as opposed to others....in TODAYS world, not the past!
Again all in "jest"as I wrote above. As they say, when in "Rome,do as the Romans"...Ahhhh..but Italy drives on the right too!Ha,ha!
I should have said...when in the UK... drive as the UK'ers!?or when in Singapore, drive as the Singaporians!?Hey,when I was in Bermuda,I wore bermuda shorts, long black knee socks and black shoes and a sports jacket with a tie...when I went walking around in the business district....since every local guy there was doing the same.I wanted to "blend in"as they say in a natural way.But then, did I feel this was normal? No,no way,but it seemed the natural thing to do at the time!

All this talk about cars is just confusing me even more - I'm just gonna stick to public transport!
