99% rule
The first 2 rounds will be considered finished when 99% of all games in the corresponding tournament section have been completed. I am playing in the 56th GK Advanced section and more than 99% of the games have been complete. About 4019 games finished with 28 to go. It has been over 99% for about a week. Is this rule still enforced and if so why not in this tournament? GK seems to be a stickler for enforceing the rules - especially their own.

They're a bit slow sometimes, but the rule will take edventually, patience is a virtue...

Oh I know but the reason they put the rule in place was to seepd up the process. Take it out if you're not going to use it.

...
Patience may well cost derman53 promotion to the next round in this case. But if both games were played out then again he has a good chance of promotion...
It is tough to be in a position where the date of rule enforcement plays a major role. I would have thought that the rule enforcement would have been more or less automatic (given some processing time of course) - apparently this is not the case. Sorry that you are such a tough spot derman53, I hope for you that the rule kicks in quickly.

Consistency
I have seen them invoke the 99% rule at the point the 99% results are reached. This one took a week after it had been reached. Use it consistency or lose it. (the rule that is). Sure people hold on to games if they can get into the next round. It had to be expected and anticipated that people would do that. After all the goal of winning the 1st round is to get to the next one as long as it's in the rule structure.

I have fallen victim to this rule...
And it was the game that would decide whether or not I move on to the next round!

Do away with the 99% rule
People are MORE likely to stall when ahead so they can be promoted. I have to rush to try to finish games at a recent tournament because my opponent got 4 time outs early....luckily he's not stalling...but I know some would. I think the 99% rule is unfair and can be manipulated so the best player won't be promoted.

I'm seeing a few people stall lost games deliberately so that they can get a 1/2 point with the 99% rule. Others see what they are doing so they stall their other games deliberately so this one person does not get away with the manipulation. Soon you have many people stalling games because of the few in a domino like effect. The 99% rule is starting to promote the very problem that it was meant to solve.

Please pass this on
this needs to be passed on to the gameknot staff. They need to know that the 99% is ineffective and is backfiring.
