- - The Annotation Project II - -
This is part 2 of the The Annotation Project tournament.

A few new faces in this tournament, who i think have to study a bit on the annotated games from the first project to have a chance..
The Familiar faces from the first project will have a hard time, because they have no database to guide them true the variations. So they have to practice what they have learnt from the first project.

gameknot.com

This starting position is almost equal to the position we used in the first project.
But now it emerged from the Birds opening and not the grand prix attack..

This Twin variation came from a master player called Stephen Tomporowsky who got his inspiration for the opening from a book. And was mailed to Dana MacKenzie as reply on his first lecture about the queen sacrifice in chess life..

The twin of the Demolition derby attack

1. f4 d5
2. Nf3 g6
3. e4 dxe4
4. Ng5 Nf6
5. Bc4 Bg4
6. Bxf7+ Kd7
7. Qxg4+

vs the Original demolition derby attack

1. e4 c5
2. f4 d5
3. Nf3 dxe4
4. Ng5 Nf6
5. Bc4 Bg4
6. Qxg4 Nxg4

Annotations will be posted soon.

The one arising from Bird's opening...
... I'd like to call the Raptor Attack (or maybe the Camptown Races Attack - take your pick).

At any rate, I feel sure that 9...Qd4 will be one of the main lines for Black. Sure, the Q gets chased away, but where to? After 10.c3, the Q has a wide choice. 10...Qf6 looks promising, but I rather like 10...Qb6, inhibiting White's castling for a while to come. After 9...Qd4 10.c3 Qb6 11.Nf7 Bg7!? 12.Nxh8 Bxh8, the material differential is not large, but Black's game is almost as active as White's. Black's main problem then focuses on the King.

A second interesting line begins with a move that has been popular in the Tournament just now drawing to a close: 9...e6!? White might not be well advised to take it - at least, not at once: 10.Bxe6?! Bh6 11.Nf7!? Qf6 12.Bb3 Rf8! 13.Nxh6 Qxf4 14.Nf7 Rxf7 etc. Of course, the opportunity to take on e6 may come later.

But all this has yet to be tested. E.g. White might well have a better move than 11.Nf7 in the 9...e6 line. Good luck to all competitors. Wish I could join you...

Cheers,
Ion

Bindweed!
Hi everyone!

My first game of this new project ended today. I may bring myself to annotate it or I may not and guess what - I got Freddied again. His rooks and minor pieces were like bindweed around poor Henry and Glenda. Here is the carnage below.

Dmaestro kindly suggested that Nb4 would have helped. Do you the jury have any other suggestions as to have avoided this calamity.

Please advise.

It is not just a variation it is a entire game concept
There are 5 principals to follow. ( for white )

But aldo they are simple they are quit hard to follow.

1 - Active pieces and coordination ( your compensation for the loss of the queen)
2 - restraining ( avoiding the black pieces to develop specially the queen.)
3 - closed Lines ( So no open files for black to use. open diagonals for white are good)
4 - Don,t Cash in to early. ( forks will be a loss of tempo, And exchanges specially your bishops are very bad ) ( a very hard Principal because it so tempting )
5 - Trade a knight for the black bishop if possible

As white do not rush
and wen you are black try to get white not to follow those principals.

Some extra information. You all remember Thebishop ( jerry) from the first project..
Well Ledzepp ( rusty ) is the son of thebishop....

And today he made his very first annotation, so do not be to harsh on him.. and make comments he can learn something from..

Hi everyone!

Here is my 3rd game in the tournament which alas ended in a loss. This was against The Master Mater and of course, let's sing this along to the tune of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles - I'm forever getting Freddied!

Anyhow. Here is the game:-

Yoshark Escapes and Jo the Beginner Blows It Again
Hi everyone - read all about it!

Jo the Beginner lets Yoshark the Class A Player off the Hook!

Yup, you could certainly be forgiven for thinking that the ratings are the wrong way round. I took a draw by perpetual check only to find out from my opponent that I had a forced mate in a few moves, or had I?

Here is the game kindly annotated by Yoshark. Has Jo the Beginner flubbed it again?

You the Inquest Jury decide.

All Right on the Night!
Hi everyone!

After the above disappointment (I was relieved to find out that I did not overlook a forced mate in that game though) I did manage to win a game against my buddy Bob Jacobs at 1147 GMT tonight.
