Question about rating limits
The tournament rules state: 'If the player's rating exceeds the limit of their section after the first round,
they will be automatically moved to the next higher section. Rating limits are not enforced after the second
round on.'

Is this based on their rating at the time of the commencent of the 2nd round, or based on their 'highest
rating in the last 90 days'?

My guess would be based on.......
the wording, "after the first round". If the rating was too high, but dropped back in time, they would stay put.

A wider issue here?
I'm wondering if the issue comes down to the frequency with which one's rating is updated. I guess people like to see their ratings change with every game, but I'm inclined to think that is far too frequent an update.

Maybe it were preferable to update every so often - possibly after 10 or 20 games, say; or at particular dates based on overall performance in the interim. Another possiblility (though I think this might be no better than the existing system) is for GK to maintain the running rating system, but emend the published rating only after x number of games, or at such-and-such a date. It does this with interim ratings (the first 5 games on GK).

I daresay these suggestions won't get much traction. But maybe GK ought not to be quite so hasty to remove from a tournament players who during its course exceed or fall below the qualifying parameters.

But when all's said and done, the conditions do apply to everyone, and presumably one enters tournaments with this understanding.
