Ready
The captain kumpan has set the team and board order. I am honor to play the 1st. board on this magnificent team and I promise to do my utmost, in order to collect so many points as possible for the team. This is not going to be an easy task in all ways, so expect a tough fight on all boards, but I'm sure that: Peace: Power that preserves, will victories at last!

My advice is:

As you know on ICCF, there will be plenty of time to analyse, so don't feel forced to move quickly, especial when you think you have the upperhand, go over the position again and again, in order to avoid a less attractive move and loose the momentum in the game. Slow and careful moving will also avoid, drifting in to passive and defensive positions, because you analyse on longer terms!

AND NEVER BRING YOURSELF IN A POSITION; WERE YOU CAN LOOSE ON TIME!!!!!!!!

Lets get ready to "crush some skulls" on the checked board!

Best wishes with all your games friends!

Difficulties
Hello my team mates

I've received an urgent mail of ICCF, that declares that Loren is not accepted to play in the tournament, because Japan isn't member of the "Direct Entry". I've sent this evening a mail to ICCF-GM Matthias Rüfenacht to confirm that Loren is to be set by the Swiss Federation of Correspondance Chess to enter in the tournament by Direct Entry. I hope this will be accepted. If not, we need a substitute for Loren. Sorry for these bad news.

Chessfriendly Yours

GM Matthias Rüfenacht
ICCF-GM Matthias Rüfenacht is member of the management board of the Swiss Federation of Correspondance Chess and we are team mates at www.desc-online.de

Please Loren, your name sounds German. Are you of German nationality too?

I Have Also Replied
As Daniel requested, I sent a note to the good GM and explained why I am Japanese even though I am of German descent (my family spoke Plattdeutsch at home and I began to learn Hochdeutsch at age 6) and have US citizenship. I lived for many years in Japan and had permanent residence status there as well as a tenured university professorship. I had never played for any other federation, so I began my international chess career playing over the board for Japan in FIDE events. My FIDE title and nationality are Japanese, so when I began to play for Peace in the Champions League (my first ICCF event), I contacted the JCCA and asked them whether they wished me to play for Japan in CC as well as OTB. Since they kindly accepted me once again, I am a JCCA member and play for Japan. However, Japan does not use the DE system, which is causing a problem for our entry. I hope it works out because I very much enjoy playing for Peace with my GK friends.

Highest regards and apologies for the problem,
Loren

US-citizenship
I've sent your e-mail directly to the responsable at ICCF. I think there is a little hope in your US-citizenship too.

Now we have to wait the newest official mail of ICCF. Let's hope!

Peacefully Bash Some Skulls!
We (Peace I) have a good chance. We are rated 4th in our section, so we need to pass up at least two higher-rated teams to advance. However, none of the higher-rated teams is THAT much higher, so we can be optimistic! Fight hard, Team Peace!

1st result in the new season CHL 5
we are on the board, since I have drawn my game against my american opponent and the game went like this:

Morrow, Wolff vs. Ottesen, Søren

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Be3 e5 7.Nb3 Be6 8.Qf3 Nbd7 9.h3 Rc8 10.Bd3 Be7 11.a4 Nf8 12.a5 Ng6 13.O-O O-O 14.Rfd1 h6 15.Na4 Nd7 16.Nb6 Nxb6 17.axb6 Bxb3 18.cxb3 Bg5 19.Rac1 Bxe3 20.Qxe3 Ne7 21.b4 Rc6 22.Rxc6 Nxc6 23.Rc1 Nxb4 24.Rc7 d5 25.exd5 Nxd5 26.Qe4 Nf6 27.Qf5 e4 28.Bc4 Qd1+ 29.Bf1 Qd6 30.Rxb7 g6 31.Qa5 e3 32.Qe1 Qc6 33.Ra7 Nd5 34.Rxa6 Rb8 35.b4 exf2+ 36.Qxf2 Nxb4 37.Ra7 Qxb6 38.Rxf7 Qxf2+ 39.Rxf2 Kg7 ½-½

I know this is rather quickly my first game already ended, but my opponent ran right into my homeprep. For more than 2 years I have been working to find a healthy line against 8.Qf3 / 9.h3 in the Najdorf and finally I think I found it. My valuation is, that it is crucial for black to play 8.... Nbd7 / 9.... Rc8!! Some of my most painful losses in the Najdorf, have been in this line and variation, (Carlos you know by heart, what I'm talking about) so I'm very satisfied with this result. ½ points with the black pieces, cannot be that bad either!

Draw with Black = Good Start
I think most of my games are about move 5-8 right now and Soren is already done with one! Good work, Soren!

Opening Survey: 3 Alekhine's, 2 Benko, 1 Trompovsky with Black, 5 various QGD and 1 Grunfeld with White.

Result
another game has ended in a draw on 1st board. Here is the game:

Mezera, Lukáš vs Ottesen, Søren

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 O-O 8. c3
d5 9. exd5 Nxd5 10. Nxe5 Nxe5 11. Rxe5 c6 12. d4 Bd6 13. Re1 Qh4 14. g3 Qh3 15.
Be3 Bg4 16. Qd3 Rae8 17. Nd2 Re6 18. a4 Qh5 19. axb5 axb5 20. Bxd5 Qxd5 21. c4
bxc4 22. Qxc4 Rb8 23. Ra6 Bf8 24. b3 Bh3 25. Qxd5 cxd5 26. Rxe6 Bxe6 27. Ra1
Rb7 ½-½

I'm happy with the result and outcome of this game. I have tried to play a little different this time and have prepared some other openings against 1.e4, were I normally play the Najdorf defence. This time in a sharp Marshall attack, in the closed Roy Lopez and a ½ point!

Identities.
Is it possible for us to know who's who in the two PTP teams on ICCF in comparison to GK?

For example:

GK ICCF/board link/url

cairo Soren
fmgaijin Loren

I don't even really know who's on my team, who's who on GK and what board they're on. Nor do I know where to find standings of how our team is doing (wins/losses/draws) as well as how each team member is doing.

Sorry if some of the answers are obvious but I'm new to ICCF and how everything works on it. GK seems much easier to understand and navigate.

ICCF
Hi Andrew,

The Captain of your team should be able to help answering your relevant questions. All identities of the players are known to him, when he register the team.

Yes, except he hasn't answered the last couple of times I messaged him.

Thanks anyway Soren.

ICCF II
Hi again Andrew,

The only other way, you will able to identify your team-mates at ICCF, is if you know there ID's or name, then you can look them up through: www.iccf-webchess.com were you can search for whomever you looking for on ICCF.

Good luck!

Best wishes
Søren

Ps! A bit weird your Captain not answering your mails......

03-Nov-12, 06:26

Unfortunately no, I don't have any of that info. You say my captain? Isn't he your captain too? Does he answer your messages? I haven't tried messaging him for a few weeks now because of his silence. I think it was thru GK so maybe he doesn't log on there anymore. I should try emailing him instead. I think I still have his email somewhere.

Sad news.
Hans just lost his first game by timeout without making his fifth move. And unfortunately certainly not the last. Well, another season away by the lack of commitment from someone.
I guess, Daniel, there is no way for a substitution?

Two seasons is enough to do the same. Hans should not start the next.

Substitution Possible?
I know that one team did replace a player after games were already underway during the previous league. However, I do not know what restrictions are placed on this.

Loren

That sucks...
...to lose a season that just started, all thanks to one player doing the damage.

Who's hans? Harpov maybe? I still haven't heard from kumpan even though I've sent him numerous messages so I don't know what his problem is. Has he talked to any of you lately? He's playing his games on GK without timeouts so I must be on ignore for some reason, or no reason really.

Disaster
However, I hope there is nothing seriously wrong with Hans. I will write Daniel and see if it is possible to replace Hans, so we at last can safe some of the games.

I doubt I can...
...but originally I wanted to be part of this team and was asked to be part of this team. But when fmgaijin got things straightened out I was left out, understandably so.

So I still wouldn't mind being part of the 1st PTP team. I doubt I can be transferred over but perhaps I could be a part of both PTP teams this time and when both CL's are done I can just stick to the original PTP team (you guys). I think we'd have a VERY strong team with us four. Guys who take this seriously and offer no chance of timeouts! In my mind that's THE cardinal sin in chess! My record on GK proves it. Zero timeouts!

Naturally, I also hope all is well with Hans health wise. If you hear from kumpan let me know. He seems dead to me.

I shall
post here, as soon as I have any news!

Thanks for your offer for playing for PTP "sweetm8" and perhaps it will be possible in the future, we will just wait and see what the outcome will be of this.

Currently...
Right now I'm part of PTP II but like you said, let's wait and see what happens. Btw, I just noticed that harpov was removed from his GK team by the team captain due to his high timeout percentage so I wouldn't surprised if the same happens with him in PTP. Anyway, if you hear anything from kumpan let me know.
