Offer Appreciated, but . . .
I know that a player may play on only one team in the CL. One of the German teams last year replaced Bd. 2 (Soren's board) so I know that it can be done, but I'm sure that it requires death or severe illness, neither of which I wish upon Hans. I hope that he is well.

Neither do I. I was only asking if it could be done but if it can't then so be it. I'm not unhappy with the team I'm on. So far nobody's timed out that I know of although I'm not getting any updates from anyone so I don't know what's going on. That's the only thing I don't like, is the lack of communication...something which I see your team has no issue with.

True
I enjoy the CL primarily because of the camaraderie with Carlos and Soren. It really FEELS like a team!

That's what I was talking about. It shows with PTP. It's just nowhere in sight with PTP II. Everyone's a mute :-/ We even have a group email address but nobody writes anything. I wrote once asking something, got an answer and that was it. I wrote kumpan on GK twice and once via email. No answer. It's been like this for a couple of months.

So that is why I'd prefer to be on PTP I. Other than that I'm good.

Not sure if anyone on PTP I cares to know so I'll keep it short. So far the guys I'm playing are pretty much like GK. Same various levels of play. The top two rated guys are pushing me hard with white against my black but I'm holding my own without a problem and should both be draws. The rest is very slow playing on my opponent's part. 3 are on lengthy holidays. The rest, so far I should get at least two wins but it's still early.

Second Timeout
If anyone can reach our captain Daniel, please do so. We need to make an emergency request for a substitute.

2.7 Can players be replaced in a team?

A team is allowed to replace players during and between the seasons.

That is in the rules for the CL.

time outs
Just coming back home from a business trip, I've now written several mails concerning the problem of time outs: to all team members and to the tournament director. We will have to wait his decision...

Sorry for the troubles.

Result
it is another draw with the black pieces and the game goes like this:

Jordan, Jürgen vs Ottesen, Søren

1.d4 f5 2.Bg5 Nf6 3.Bxf6 exf6 4.e3 d5 5.c4 Be6 6.Nc3 dxc4 7.d5 Bf7 8.Bxc4 Nd7 9.Nge2 Bb4 10.O-O Qe7 11.Rc1 O-O 12.Nb5 Bd6 13.Ned4 g6 14.Ne6 Bxe6 15.dxe6 Nb6 16.Bb3 Rfd8 17.Qf3 c6 18.Nxd6 Rxd6 19.Rfd1 Rad8 20.Rxd6 Rxd6 21.e4 fxe4 22.Qxe4 Kg7 23.g3 a5 24.a3 a4 25.Rd1 Kf8 26.Rxd6 Qxd6 27.Bxa4 Nxa4 28.Qxa4 b5 29.Qe4 Ke7 ½-½

Again I tried something different and perhaps more sharp in the opening, with the Dutch opening, but never really got anything significant outcome of that. Later I had to play very carefully, to secure the draw.

1st game for PTP II complete.
Well, we're on the board. We've got the first result for PTP II and it went like this:

It's still points so I wouldn't sweat it. I noticed most of the players on iccf, at least in my division, have decent books and counter-attacks. They'll always be tough to beat, especially with black imho. And I think the more you play a popular move the higher the probability of a draw. To win, you have to take some risks, but smart risks. It's a little different on GK in my opinion.

Referring to your game however, I probably wouldn't have played 10.dxe5. That's a bad move for white in my opinion even though it may score the highest. At that point I'm not sure white could win without black blundering. It's easy to say now but I'd have tried 10.h3. With this move black doesn't have as good moves to go with but black could still draw.

Good Fighting Games, Team! Mine, Not So Much
Andrew, good solid first game for GKII. Soren, I hope we will get a win soon--I have one clearly winning position but don't know how many months it will take *grin*! Here's my first result, with Black against the top-rated Moscow Volga player:

Moscov-Volga vs. Loren 1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.d4 d6 4.c4 Nb6 5.Nf3 g6 6.Nc3 Bg7 7.Be3 O-O 8.c5!? (White's setup is unpromising after the "normal" exd6, so he decides to go for something unusual instead.) N6d7 9.cxd6 cxd6 10.exd6 exd6 11.Be2 Nc6 12.O-O Nf6 13.Re1 d5 (=) 14.Rc1 Re8 15.Bd3 Bg4 16.h3 Bxf3 17.Qxf3 Qb6! (Now Black is fine after 18.Qd1 Qxb2 19.Nb5 Qb4! 20.Nc7 Rxe3! with several tricky variations but Black always okay due to attacks on the dark-squared Ps.) 18.Nxd5 (White opts for the simplest solution, a dead draw.) Nxd5 0.5-0.5 (19.Qxd5 Rad8 20.Qb5 Bxd4 and Black will always wind up with an active R and a drawn ending.)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone got most of what they wanted

Loren: Unfortunately it's just a draw. And more unfortunately I'm forced to fight hard with Black for another draw against the top player in my group but it shouldn't be a problem. I do have at least one win coming up soon...just depends when he finally resigns. The rest are so far draws which scare me because some are the weakest players in my group who have no business getting a draw against me but unfortunately that's the position I'm in

Nice draw on your part. Too bad there are so many draws (from what I can see) on ICCF.

Thanks, Soren and Andrew!
I am about to lose my first Alekhine on ICCF (out of 20+ games finished with 1.e4 Nf6), but not in OUR tournament. I am quite lost against a Dutch IM in a WCC Prelim; however, it was not due to the opening. I tried a risky piece sac in hopes of making an IM norm, but he defended everything. I have run out of ideas and will resign that one soon. So far I don't have any losing positions in the League *fingers crossed*!

Nice Struggle, Soren!
I know it's frustrating to have all these draws, but that was a nice fighting game, with both of you playing for a win, and you held him off and had some points where he had to find the correct move. So you should be proud of the way you've played against a strong field.

I have one piece-up game, so I'm sure that I will eventually win at least that one. I have the advantage in most of my games, including some small material advantages, but no other simple wins. I am probably slightly worse off in two of my games with Black but I do not consider the positions losing (yet).

Mid-Tourney Update
3 P+ endings that I hope to win. 1 unbalanced ending with N + 2P vs. R (probably equal). 2 P- late openings (Benko Gambits). 2 late opening/early middlegame with equal material. 1 late opening (still book in a position I haven't ever lost) with 2 Ns + attack vs. Q.

I should finish with a plus score (currently +1), but how much is still unclear.

Update for Team II
Thought I would check in with a progress update...seems to be going OK though less well than the other tournaments I have been playing there. I have two games where I am a little worse as black, but one of which I think I have analysed out to a drawn ending. On the other hand there are five games where I have a significant advantage and the remainder I am on the better side of equality, so on track for a plus score, but not clear yet how positive.

Latest Update
Currently 2-1 (1 W, 2 D)
3 P+ endings: 1 now 100% win even though the material is now =, other 2 90% win (factoring in my ability to make mistakes).
N + 2P vs. R ending: Mullling draw offer from opponent.
2 Benkos: Regained P in one with probable drawn ending. Other still following a WCCC final game that ended in a draw.
2N vs. Q middlegame: Still in my personal book (I consider it equal).
1 equal middlegame (Black Alekhine).
1 advantageous middlegame (White QGD).

If everything goes as hoped (win the advantageous endings, draw the Benkos, maybe draw the N + 2P vs. R) then I will be at +4 with one advantageous game and two equal games to try for more.
