                 Hi everybody!

I'm a 19-year-old business student from the Netherlands. I've been playing chess for 4 years now and - I have to admit it - I'm addicted to it. I love learning new things (openings, tactics or strategy) and I think I'm improving with every move I make. My goal is to reach a rating of 2000 sometime, but that's still a pretty long way to go. I also like playing Over-the-board chess, my rating there is in the 1500s now.

I always play 1.e4 as White. I usually play the Scotch or Italian. Against the Sicilian I'm currently learning the Grand Prix Attack (2.Nc3 and 3.f4) which I'm starting to like more and more. Against the French I play 3.Nc3 and see what happens. Against modern systems I just develop. As Black I'm currently learning the Scandinavian with 2...Nf6, but I've previously played the Petroff and still stick to that sometimes. I also like the Sicilian dragon, but dislike the tons of theory on it and the anti-Sicilians White has at his disposal. Against 1.d4 I play the Benko gambit at the moment. However, on GK I sometimes play something completely different from what I'm used to. I use this site as a means of creating a good repertoire for my OTB play.

My 'resignation policy' in OTB or GK games with long time controls: I'll resign when I'm a rook or two pieces down and don't have counterchances (i.e. compensation). I won't resign when mate is very close (unless I don't see it obviously), because it's always nice to mate someone and if you resign one move before it happens, it seems as if you're a sore loser and don't want your opponent to feel that pleasure.

I've annotated a couple of my games, OTB games as well as GK games. Check them out under Added by l-d-j -> Annotated games.

GK milestones (time-out games excluded, unless otherwise indicated):
First win ever (and shortest game as black, too, with 8 moves): game
First win over 1500+: game
First win over 1700+: game
Crossing the 1500 mark: game
First time I crossed the 1600 mark: game
Crossing the 1600 mark forever (hopefully): game
Shortest game ever as white (8 moves): game
First time I crossed the 1700 mark (unfortunately by timeout): game
Crossing the 1700 mark forever (hopefully): game
100th win: game
First win over 1800+: game
I hope I can add some new achievements in the near future (first 1900 win/crossing the 1800 mark?).
