The ethics and actions of a bright are based on a naturalistic worldview.
The movement's three major aims are:
*Promote the civic understanding and acknowledgment of the naturalistic worldview, which is free of supernatural and mystical elements.
*Gain public recognition that persons who hold such a worldview can bring principled actions to bear on matters of civic importance.
*Educate society toward accepting the full and equitable civic participation of all such individuals.
Currently the naturalistic worldview is insufficiently expressed within most cultures, even politically/socially repressed. To be a Bright is to participate in a movement to address the situation.
While the Brights Chess Team is not an official component of the brights movement, it draws its membership in part from there. We're happy to welcome members with all different perspectives who are committed to equality for anyone regardless of their worldview. Please note that 'bright' in this context includes anyone who has the best to offer, including a naturalistic worldview or otherwise. This team is all about the pursuit of excellence in gamesmanship, competition, and community pride. That community is what unites us to gain recognition of the civic equality of everyone, religious or not, free of superstition and dogma.
