1. e4	This game requires explanation.



1... e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4 Bb4+ 5. c3 Bc5 6. b4 Bb6 7. Bb5 Nxd4 8. cxd4 c6 9. Bc4 d5 10. Bb3 Qf6 11. Be3 dxe4 12. Nc3 Qg6 13. b5 Qxg2	I know it’s a poison pawn but I can clear a couple.



14. Rf1 Bg4 15. f3 Bxf3 16. Ne2 Nf6 17. Rg1 Qxg1+	Here I somehow failed to notice that black bishop. It was late at night. When I woke up in the morning and saw -1 I thought, wait—I did not set up a trade. What went wrong?
	1 comment archduke_piccolo (2355) on 14-Jan-26: Inattention. A quick look around would have unearthed 17...Ba5+, followed by a series of exchanges that yield Black a large material advantage: 18.Bd2 Qxg1+ 19.Nxg1 Bxd1 20.Rxd1 Bxd2+ 21.Rxd2 cxb5.


18. Bxg1 O-O-O 19. bxc6 bxc6 20. Bxf7 Ba5+ 21. Kf1	Very painful. My pieces are in disarray, and will be easy pickings. I’m holding out for a draw, otherwise I’m dropping 20 points, putting me well below 1900 I had just achieved.



21... Rd6 22. Qc1 Rf8 23. Qc5 Kd7 24. Qxa5 Rxf7	Cannot afford to trade, but have little choice.



25. Qxa7+ Ke6 26. Nf4+	Lost the rook. :(



26... Kf5 27. Qxf7 Kxf4 28. Qxg7 h5 29. Qg3+ Kf5	Bye bye, last rook.



30. Qxd6 Nd5 31. Qxc6 e3	My faint hope is to pick off that pesky queen.



32. a4 h4 33. Bxe3	Success! Though it will cost my knight.

33... Nxe3+ 34. Kf2 Bxc6 35. Kxe3 h3	Here the game is pretty much lost. Another white blunder is a long shot. White will trade a pawn for my bishop, and there is no hope for the blocked pawn, so a draw is the best I can get.
	1 comment archduke_piccolo (2355) on 14-Jan-26: White can insure himself against a draw by exchanging rook for bishop. But he can do better, by forcing the bishop to be exchanged for a pawn. The first plan would be to write down the bishop by pushing the a-pawn to rank-7, nailing the bishop down on a8. Then manoeuvre the rook to the h-file, something like Ra1-a5-h5-h8, forcing Black to give up his bishop for the a-pawn.

Rxa8 Kg7 52. h6+ Kh7 53. Ra7+ Kg8 54. Kg6	If I go right the pawn promotes. Left is immediate death. I can’t trick a clown move like Kh8 Kf7, though perhaps I should have played it just to see. I’m currently the highest rated player beaten by the horn, by over 300 points.
	1 comment archduke_piccolo (2355) on 07-Nov-25: It's mate in two more moves. It is the one-mover oversights that are most galling. I'm finding myself lately making the most egregious blunders - beginner level. Senior moments are no better for being senior moments... One might have thought that after the loss of the queen, the negative-one material deficit need not have been a losing proposition. But so loose was Black's position that White found in the subsequent play easy pickings.
