The temptation to hold the c pawn in an accepted queen's gambit can be excruciating if you have not been crushed recently. In this game I did not choose the best moves for the opening but managed to pull it off in a zesty fashion.

1. d4	Queen's gambit can be fun...to watch! I do not enjoy this particular opening regardless of the color I play as it seems much too solid if one plays ordinary moves.



1... d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Nc3	Standard.

3... c5	Not so popular for good reason as the invitation for d5 is rather tempting and hard to dislodge for black.



4. d5 a6 5. a4 Nf6	So far my main task is simply to take the pawn on d5. However, white has enough to defend it and so it looks like he has the advantage for the opening as I will have to plant my undeveloped knight on d7 and suffer spacial disadvantages.



6. Nf3 e6 7. e4	White has made it clear that d5 is going no where. There is simply no way for me to take the pawn after white plays Bxc4.



7... Nxe4	!? In blitz it is hard to see if a move is solid. This move seemed the only way to not die a slow strategic death. 8. dxe Qxd1+ 9. Nxd1 Bxe6 and I am up two pawns.

Nxf2+ winning the rook. damalfi (1200) on 12-Nov-10: Hmmm... interesting sac! An alternate response for white can be Bxc4. True, black can play NxN, bxN, exd4, with a solid center, and white is defending a hard position... but even so, at least white can castle and his pieces are playing


8. Nxe4 exd5 9. Nc3 Be6 10. Be2	?? This is a very natural move but has consequences.
	2 comments thitho (1200) on 11-Nov-10: actually, this is a losing move. You played quite well the next moves. damalfi (1200) on 12-Nov-10: d4 could be played instead of Be6... maybe. The ideal position for the lsb seems to be f5, maybe g4...


10... d4 11. Ne4 d3 12. Bf1	Although I do not have any deadly threats (comments welcome!!), white is positionally behind. Material is now equal, although black's pawns are going to pose a weakness if white recovers.



12... Nc6 13. Nfg5	13. Be3 seems like a better choice as my bishop is somewhat passive and white is behind on development. Maybe he was planning Bg2.



13... Nd4	White simply has no way to parry Nc2+

14. Nxe6 fxe6	This is correct as 14. ... Nc2+ 15. Qxc2! dxc2 16. Nxd8 Rxd8 17. Bd2 and white should regain the pawns...someday.
	2 comments damalfi (1200) on 12-Nov-10: Well, it allows Qh5+... g6, Qe5, threatening the rook, the c5 pawn, and (if the N goes to c2) the e6 pawn. Were you sure this won't have provided white with some valuable countergame? Bg5 is to be considered, too, among white's possibilities. gimlihamster (1200) on 12-Nov-10: HUNMMJNN


15. Kd2	? I don't understand this move. Help?
	2 comments thitho (1200) on 11-Nov-10: white was desperate, i guess. damalfi (1200) on 12-Nov-10: White probably saw that he had to put there the king anyway, after Nc2+. A good try for white could have been Bxd3, cxB, Qxd3. A piece (back) for two pawns leaves black in advantage, but cools things down a little. Or, again, the Qh5+ venture.


15... Nb3+ 16. Kc3 Qd4#	A rather pretty mate if you ask me!
