So far this the commonest of the common d4 theory. Ideas are still fluid. Black still has yet to decide whether this will be a King's Indian Defense, Grunfeld-Indian, or even a delayed Benoni.

This is heading for a transposition into a Sicilian line that's perfectly playable for White.

Now white can get a Maroczy bind with e4! and black will find himself playing an accelerated Dragon.

White's choosing 4. Nf3 over 4. d5, and now with 6. e4, transposes into King-pawn territory. Specifically it resembles a Maroczy-Bind Sicilian Dragon, through a different order of moves.

The transposition into an Accelerated Dragon would be complete after 6... Nc6. I'm not sure about the move Qa5 here, but it is played in some Dragon lines.

The usual way to prevent white playing e5 is with 6...d6, but 6...Qa5 isn't bad.

White wastes a tempo getting the B to e3. Note that black played ...Qa5 instead of ...d6, so after 7.Nb3 Qc7 8.Be3 black can't play 8... Ng4.

These early poisoned pawn-esque Qxb2 variations in most openings seem to me just asking for trouble most of the time. The time taken out for greedy pawn-grabbing can be fatal if one missteps. Frank Marshall even had the commandment: "Thou shalt not take the QNP with thy queen." I prefer completing development and piece activity in most cases.

You missed a more convincing shot: 11. Bd4! Forces liquidations: 11. ...Bxd4 12. Qxd4 Qxd4 (black's KR is hanging otherwise) 13. Nxd4 and black has only two pawns for the piece in a queenless middlegame and rather inadequate compensation.

why did black gave up a piece?

The N on b5 is causing problems for black. I'd leave it there. Play 12.Be2 and 13.O-O, and see if black can figure out what to do about it.

That compensation tends to grow the closer the endgame gets, all other elements of a position being equal. It's important to capitalize on the ephemeral advantages of time and initiative in development by finding the most pressuring moves. You're right that black's position lacks obvious targets. That's an advantage in moving only a few pawns.

No, but then neither is moving the queen out and back again. The annotator is obviously correct that White's pieces are better developed than Black's, as I predicted a few moves back.

Black's position has some issues. White's pieces are much better coordinated.

Black's development is slowed down, as he must look to the protection of the fork on b7.

Why even move the rook? Re1 is very uncomfortable,The f-rook is trapped.

On the other hand, 18. Rfe1 seems like a sound idea, moving the less active rook to a half-open file.

This looks anti-positional. White's last few moves put pressure on b7, and he probably wants to prevent black from playing ...b6 and ...Nc5, so I'd consider something like 18.Qa3/Qa4, further tying down the black Q-side.

my point was that I didn't want neither of my knights to be pinned: i considered them as the most active pieces in the game (and they will prove it), so, I had to move this rook. Next possible step was to put pressure on e7, which is a much better target than b7. It may sound strange, but I had no ambition on b7.
