its called ,close sicilian defense . one of the advantage this opening is ,as you know sicilian defense have so many variations, and the close sicilian is great answers to all of them .

@matsany: it's not decided whether this will be closed or open, if White plays d4 next move it'll still be an open Sicilian.

In fact a closed Sicilian would not be a good choice for White as his f-pawn is blocked by his f3-knight. If White wants to play a closed Sicilian he is better off playing 2.Nc3 and either playing Nge2 or delay developing the g1-knight until he has played f4.

I'm not so sure. It is fine if White opts to open the game out with 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Nf6!? transposing into a Najdorf Variation. But how useful is the move if White keeps the game closed - 4.d3, say. In my view a better 'waiting' move was 3...Nf6, which is in keeping with both open and closed lines. it also allows Black a wider choice if White does play 4.d4, the game being transposable into the Najdorf or Dragon Defences. One thing this pawn advance does achieve, though: it prevents the Nimzovitch-Rossolimo Attack (4.Bb5ch).

why not instead ...Nf6

But with black, I always fear white castling queen side and attacking on the king side. This rules out 0-0-0 for white

better was 5.Bc4 , because of if you go for closed sicilian its better remain in closed position and not open the position .

Clearly this is an open Sicilian. Najdorf variation to be exact. White has made no move that would commit himself to a closed position all his moves have been consistent with an open Sicilian.

Not yet, but it will be as soon as Black plays ...e6. Right now this is a Najdorf.

Typical Yugoslav Attack formation with Bc4, Nc3, Nd4, and Be3. White should follow up with f4, Qf3, Kh1, Rg1, and g4, preparing a pawn storm against the Black king. White also needs to take in considerations of d5! In typical positions, Black's d5 is very dangerous and White will have to try to stop it. In many cases, if Black does manage to get the advance d5 in, then White's attack on the kingside will quickly collapse.

The Yugoslav Attack is played against the Dragon, this is a Scheveningen Sicilian. Furthermore the Yugoslav attack is based on Queenside castling by White. Typical Yugoslav attack formations is completely irrelevant to this game.

All the same, raymond2002's idea looks a reasonable plan.

A standard break for black in the opensicilian, but, as played, it does leave black with an isolated d pawn.

biltzkov you are corect 13...d5! break whites center ,its one of the ideas of this variation , good move !

An isolated d-pawn is often the price Black must pay for the ....d5 break in the Scheveningan, but the pluses outweigh the minuses.

I think I would prefer 13...e5, even though it leaves the d-pawn backward. After 13...e5 14.Bf2 Bb7 Black will be striking at the vulnerable White e-pawn. In response to 13...d5!?, White ought to consider this line: 14.e5!? Qxc4 15.Qxc4 dxc4 16.exf6 Bxf6 17.Bxf6 gxf6 18.Ne4 exf5 19.Nxf6ch Kg7 20.Nd5 Rb8 21.Ne3, recovering the pawn. Such a forcing line is fairly easy to calculate, and the endgame is a whisker in White's favour.

Black rightly avoided 14...exd5. Black would then have responded 14...Bc5! half-pinning the Bishop on d4, and seizing the initiative: e.g. 14...Bc5 15.Bxc5 Qxc5ch 16.Kh1 exd5 17.Bd3 Bb7.

That sounds pretty bad, but what happened to me was worse. I was up with a queen, a few moves away from checkmate, and my phone rang. While I was talking, the arbiter walked over and said something to my opponent, I hung up and he said that I had lost for my phone ringing. I can show you the game if you want.

Never mind the other players: since you are presumably entitled to adjust a piece with the clear signal 'j'adoube', or something similar, then go ahead and do it. Chalk it up to experience. As for the phone ringing incident, I presume it was a cell (or similar). Now, though it ought by rights to have been turned off, you should at least have got a warning. That one I would have protested very, very loudly and at once. But these are the sorts of experiences that inform future behaviour. In my very first adult tournament (I was still at school) I once picked up a piece - a bishop - to move it and suddenly realised, having put the thing down - but still having hold of it - that it lost the thing at once (a 2-mover, I think). Now, my opponent had picked up his pen and was about to write, so I didn't feel that I could move the bishop elsewhere. I was of course, perfectly entitled to do so, but inexperience led me to leave the piece where I had originally intended it to go and went on to lose the game. Of course. A year later, as a University freshman, in a club game in Auckland I was playing a much older dude I had already been warned about. He tried to establish a kind of moral ascendancy - intimidating - over me, and it was working. The game headed towards and ending and I suddenly found myself with 2 minor pieces 'en prise' and no way to save them both. Of course Mr S.B. immediately began the gloating more than merely audibly, and expected my imminent resignation. He didn't get it. I found a complicating move that though it didn't save the situation, gave my opponent attractive ways of going wrong. This involved placing a THIRD piece 'en prise'! The thing was that of the three, 2 captures led to a win for me, and only one to a win for him. He chose wrong, saw my reply and hit the ceiling. Loudly fulminating against my perfidy in failing to resign when he thought I should, he stormed off to claim a draw. In my youth, I let him go. What I should have done is shoved a fist through his teeth, claimed the win, and explained the circumstances, but there you go. You live and learn.

The guy you were playing against was likely a very weak chess player. I find that most strong chess players are rather polite, while the weak ones are bad sports. The stronger players generally understand more about chess in general, take losing as learning, and have gone through the hardships of reaching their level. Very weak players are typically results oriented. Can't believe he would actually start gloating when he was winning. My habit when reaching a won position is to just keep the poker face on, celebrate and congrats myself mentally, then focus back on the position. Psychologically, this gives a morale boost as well as maintains focus. btw-acccording uscf regulations, you are entitled to a warning if you don't say adjust when touching a piece. Only then are you forced to move it.
