im a fan of the queen retake too but Ion also once said in one of my games "judgement call..." i might have tried 1. e4 Nc6 2. Ngf3 b6 as black

5...d5 looks fine. But castling or ...d6 are more often played here, according the the database.

Putting the frighteners on. This sort of formation is actually quite vulnerable to counter-attack, but Black would have to play boldly.

i share jkarp's explaination here where i find blitz play will affect my slower time chess games. probably a lack of experience for me. but ill still say if i loved 3 pawns this looks even more awesome to me! 4 pawns i dont think i ever saw this im just jealous now haha.

Yes, blitz is not serious play. But it can help your time pressure in slow games if you play quick enough in blitz to avoid getting your "slow" thinking and "fast thinking" mixed up.

I was thinking the same thing: Black should strike at once. After 7...c5 8.d5 exd5 9.cxd5 Re8 looks strong for Black. Instead 8.e5 Ne8! places Black in a position to break up that big centre. Having said that, the move played (...b6) is unobjectionable, serving to bring in more pressure against White's centre pawns.

The light long diagonal would be a worry...

I think Black's idea was to free his f-pawn to strike at e4 by ...f5.

maybe c6 instead here as black looks like a double 4 pawn line flanking each other giving lots of choices to both sides to ether make the right or wrong move especially since it seems hes waiting on you to attack and he could reply d5 on your e5 and if cxd5 cxd5 the c6 square becomes available for the B knight a good square for it

Of course, White could have played this in response to ...f5 as well. But Black would not have been too unhappy about that.

Better, I think, was 12...Kh8, with the idea 13.fxe5 g6 14.Bxg6 fxg6 16.Qxg6 Nf8 17.Qh5ch Nh7. Could Black survive this? Might have been an interesting 'Blitz' exercise!

Black clearly has no real plan, and has no idea how to play the defence in this sort of position. After his missed chance, it had probably already got away from him. One thing is for certain: I would have required a better return for my Queen's bishop than he got from ...Bxf3(?).

i think Ion is correct. it reminds me of when i didnt know what to play earlier in my chess experience i would just end up moving a pawn to just move on to the next move until a set up appears that i could "understand" so to speak
