If he's gonna make this kind of moves, why does he play on anyway?

i think he wanted to play a bit farther,so he wont be as embarrassed.

It is just possible that he hoped to provoke a headlong and loosening attack by Black, and, with luck, get some counter play. It just ain't happening, though. Meanwhile, he can't find any positive play himself...

He should have resigned after dropping the queen!

No: White is doing the right thing. He could have resigned with a clear conscience any time since move 5. But, having decided to play on he's keeping things solid, and waiting. There's nothing else to do right now.

Waiting. Black's keeping things tight, so white can't strike out anywhere. If things keep on this way, White will have to give up. He needs Black to loosen up.

Avoiding too many exchanges. White certainly did not want to play Nxe4?? (either knight). If he had to exchange one of them he preffered to keep this one as closer to the Black King. But he does seem to have overlooked something...

Hehe this is a mess. Resigning saves you from getting exposed that much!

Rxg7+ was clearly the point of Rg3, I dont know why he didn't play it.

I think I would have played it, with this in mind: 25.Rg7ch Kf8? 26.Bh6 Nxc3?? 27.Rg6ch Ke8 28.Rg8ch Bf8 29.Bxf8 f6 30.Bd6ch Kf7 31.Rg7ch Ke8 32.Nxf6 mate! This would have required rather more cooperation from Black that he has shown so far! White would have had precious little attack after 25...Kh8.

I dont think white played to the level of an >2000 player, but then maybe they were just having an off period of time or something.

Obviously White played far below his level.. Missing such simple threats is not even worthy of a 1500 player, let alone a 2000. But well played by Black, you gave him no chance.

Yup, William's rating was 1897 before this victory and his opponent's 2144 so an excellent result. It is possible for Experts and above to make "1200" type errors. Master Freddy blundered a piece and went on to concede a Low Draw to his Class C 1500 opponent and when he was an Expert he blundered the exchange to a Class C 1400 player and went on to lose. He did blunder a rook to a 1100 opponent but still went on to beat him.

Yes. In this case, the player's strength was not to blame; Even a 700 rated player would easily see this threat. When one is very fatigued or plays many game at once, these mistakes happen to everyone. Goo for white, nothing to be ashamed about for black, since we are all human

The difference between a 2000+ player and, say, a 1500 player, is the relative frequency - or infrequency - of short range blunders of this type. We all make them, and for any number of reasons. The fact was, that once he went Queen for Knight down, White was playing on in a losing game in which Black gave him no opening by which he could obtain worthwhile counter-play.
