Poor move; this just hangs a piece. You need to be careful where you move pieces to - check before moving if they can just be captured.

You could think about taking the rook, but you could also simply take the knight right away. 21...Qxa2.

23...Qa5 was best because after 24.Nxf5 you can take the a2 knight.

As said, you could get an even exchange with 23...Qa5. You don't save the bishop, but you get a knight in return.

Rb8 was maybe better, giving the rook more space. But black's completely lost here in any event.

@jkarp: not all of White's pieces are developed, but he has more pieces so it doesn't matter all that much. Black's rook on d8 is also not doing much. The pieces that are really active are White's knight on f5, his Bishop on d3 and his rook on c1, and Black's queen on f6 and rook on e8. However, since Black is not threatening anythin immediately White can take time to bring out his other pieces and consolidate his position, ending up with a won position.

A big blunder which gives black some chances. Probably 29. RxR QxR 30. Qd1 was ok, followed by trying to get the king to g2 and getting the rook into the game.

Actually, Rc1+ doesn't win as I thought. 30. ... Rc1+ 31. Kd2 RxR 32. Qb8+ is winning for black after 32 ... Kh7 33. Qg6 Qg8#

Both 30...Rc1+?? and 30...Qa1+?? don't work. 30...Rc1+ 31.Kd2 Rxh1 32.Qc8+ Kh7 33.Ne7+ g6 34.Qg8# (I guess that's what cdeburca meant) and 30...Qa1+?? fails to the same variation. But I think 30...Qe6+ was better than this, because it defends c8 so if White wants to play Qb8+ at some point you can defend with ...Rc8.
