Some times you have to put the king in the corner, as in K+B vs K+R endgame. But here ...Kh8?? is met by Nf7#

Now this position could lead to checkmate if not for back's rook. White is in a precarious position, but checkmate is not foreseen here.

So long as Black maintains the pin he should be OK. So 101...Rc3 should also draw. As an example of what might otherwise happen, check this out 101...Rd4?? (this isn't the worst move available to Black, but it's still fatal  102.Nd7ch Rxd7 - this is forced, as every other legal move is instant checkmate. 103.Kxd7 Kb7 104.Rh1 Kb6 105.Rh5 Kb7 106.Rh6! Kb8 107.Kc6 Kb8 108.Kb6 Kb8 109.Rh8# This is the fastest mate...

In my view you guys have done readers good service in playing out and annotating this game. We are all told about these 'book draw' end games, but it is helpful I think to have an example like this from which to learn how it is done. Especially when it has been played down to the wire. White made a genuine effort to find a win - he wasn't simply shifting wood to see out the 50 moves (give or take the last half dozen or so) - and Black did have to play accurately with an eye out for cheapos. Good game.
