Annotated chess game

My mistake: I thought White would play 11.Qb3 and if 11...Rb8, say, 12.d5 hoping for 12...exd5 13.cxd5 Ne5 14.Nxe5 dxe5 15.Bg6 Qc8 16.Rac1 with huge pressure. If at once 12...Ne5 13.Nxe5 dxe5 14.dxe6 Bxe6 15.Rad1 ... It is not clear why White wanted to induce the Black bishop to d7 before playing the Q to c2.

With this move, the best next move would be 12.Bg6!.

Possibly a strategic error, as it weakens White's central presence. If he can establish a mobile Q-side pawn majority, it may turn out all right. I'm not sure how quickly or effectively Black can exploit the weakness at d4.

But trading was the right move: 13...bxc5 14.bxc5 e5! and White is staring down the twin barrels of Black's mobile centre pawns! It's hard to fathom why Black pssed this one by.

Whatever else is in this position, the protected passed pawn has to be an asset for White.

Whatsoever, I don't like the positions on both sides so far.

Greener pastures maybe? Not a lot to offer at c3 right now...

After that, you can play Bd6. If Black castles, even before you play the suggested move, you can play it.

One suspects he didn't see the fork threat earlier, else he would have waited until after castling before essaying ...a5.

Bd6! and trade of the dark squared bishop followed by Nd6 chokes black to death.

That, or Nc7.

Probably going after the b5-knight. But it's too slow, and takes a useful defender away from the K-side. One possibility, which at least is consistent with Black's earlier plan, is ...Ra5, ...Rfa8, ...Bd8 then ...Qa6. This can be disrupted by Nf3-e5, but it will put pressure on White's a-pawn.
