No doubt it had to be tried, though. After 31.fxe5 Qg7ch 32.Kf1 (After 32.Kh2 Ng4ch White is forced to exchange on g4; if 32.Kh1 Black wins!) 32...Qg5 33.Qxf6 c5 34.f4 Qxf6 35.exf6 ... but now the f-pawn can't be stopped.
