Quite an interesting ending in its way. One felt that Black was straining every nerve to unbalance the game and avoid draws, and skated right at the edge of defeat at one point. That the ending is 'dead drawn' is correct, but can it be demonstrated? Can Black force the draw? Yes, and yes: 44...g5! forces off White's last pawn, after which even were White to collect all the Black pawns for it, the resulting K-B-N vs K-B endgame must be drawn.
