Very neat! The pure pawn ending would be won for Black, so by threatening exchanges, forces the creation of his own passed pawn.

Black is running White close, but White, by ramming home his runner, has a quick win, even though Black queens first: 35.e7 c1=Q 36.e8=Qch Kh7 37.Qe4ch Kg8 38.Qd8ch Kf7 39.Qdd8ch Kf6 40.Qe7# It seems that 34...c2 is premature, and shuts Black's Q out of the play. 34...Qe2 had to be tried, holding up the e-pawn's promotion prospects, but also maintaining access to the h2-b8 diagonal should the opportunity arise. By removing his Q from that diagonal, White has given Black some hope...

Black had to try 36...g6! It looks counterintuitive, but after 37.Qf7ch Qg7 (it seems likely Black overlooked this defence) Black is still in the game. White would just about have had to play 38.Qf4 whereupon 38...c1=Q!? 39.Qxc1 Qe5ch 40.Kh1 Qxe6 41.Qc7ch Kg8 42.Qxb7 Qe1ch 43.Kh2 Qe5ch and Black has held the draw.

A very even contest that Black could easily have drawn, but for that sudden collapse at move 36, Though perhaps justice was served at that: White had missed a quick win a move or two earlier. The Queen ending is very interesting - they aren't easy to play - so is well worth playing through on its own.
