There was a classy finish possible in this sequence: 37.Bc6! ...( threatens mate, and there is but one way to stop it short of giving away the Queen) 37...Qf5 38.Qb8ch Ke7 (...Qc8 gave away mate in 2) 39.Qe8ch Kf6 40.Qf8ch ... and now [a] 40...Ke6 41.Be7ch! or [b] 40...Kg6 41.Be8ch Kg4 42.Qg7ch Qg6 43.Qxg6#. ++++++++++++ Bally interesting game this, featuring bush-warfare skirmishing in the middlegame, with some interesting hidden features in the end game. Thanks, Charles!

I have the same thing going as what Jeremy just posted which is why it took me so long to comment on this game. I also enjoy reading Charles annotations, but I enjoyed this even more. This felt like another training game with Ken because of what we discussed in our second game, and then, what happened afterwards. That is, with the last thing he said to me when I was critical of someone playing the Larsen Attack before I annotated one of Ken's games in his honor. As you headed into a Grunfeld Variation that, not only wasn't I used to, but I hadn't seen before until today, the Neo-Grunfeld. And, then we factor that in with ION's earlier comment of seeing the opponents intention which for me, was doing a better job accessing the positions. All in all, that made this annotation even more instructive. So, regardless of how long it took me, I'm really glad that I, finally, had time to comment to on it. With that being said, I, automatically, rate this annotation with 5 stars, Charles.
And, as usual, I'll be showing it to my student, Erika.
