Nice Weather
And I hear the heat wave hasn't hit Mars yet. It's sunny and -53 degrees Fahrenheit (or -47 degrees Celsius). Gotta Love it!

I must visit this Mars place....
maybe on youtube.com or nasa.com. But I still must visit.
|
|
being Scottish
at -53 degrees on mars do I still need to put sunscreen on? Or dose it have an ozone layer?

Better safe than sorry...
At least SPF 15 to be on the safe side. One can't be too careful.

Martian Sunscreen
If there's no water there, then probably not many clouds either. So sunscreen is probably in order. But Wikipedia says that the atmosphere is 95% carbon dioxide, so make sure to pack your breathing apparatus. Oh, and if any of H.G. Welles' War Of The World type of Martians are stalking about, bring along a handful of human bacteria.

|
Martian Sunscreen
Talking about the carbon dioxide element Total Recall was on UK TV the other day, when his helmet decompresses on the Martian rocks its gross!! Got to love a good Arnie film, for the big lump he is he was surprisingly good at Sci-Fi. Maybe one day people could populate Mars.

protcted cavern on Mars.
Its possible that there are organisms living below ground in caverns such as this. apod.nasa.gov
|
|
i agree
there are organisms living on Earth living in extreme environments without sunlight, and some even without apparent water, near extreme cold and extreme heat. I would love to repel down into that cave!!! i would just bring a microscope and a chemical analyzer.
|
|
NASA research doc on this subject
There is speculation that micro organisms can also live on comets. Here is an article from the NASA research center in 2002 discussing life on interplanetary worlds in comparison to some life in extreme conditions here on earth. www.nss.org
|
|
good point!!!
as was said in the movie 'Jurassic park' ;;....life finds a way''

This is going to be a giant step for mankind, again
Although NASA is probably the biggest driving force behind this mission, it will be a triumph for all mankind. This is a stepping stone to the next part of exploration.

Latest MSL Updates MSL Remains on Track for Weekend Landing Thu, 02 Aug 2012 06:22:02 PM GMT-0400 Curiosity remains in good health, with no significant issues currently in work. There are no real-time activities planned today. The Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft remains on a consistent and stable course, well within the limits required to reach its target landing ellipse. As a result, yesterday the flight team decided to cancel the build and test of a contingency version of Trajectory Correction Maneuver 5. This contingency manuever, had it been needed, would have been used in the event an emergency prevented the team from executing the nominal scheduled TCM-5 maneuver, which is planned for Friday, Aug. 3, if needed. The project also canceled a corresponding update to parameters for the autonomous software controlling events during entry, descent and landing.

Now it gets busy
