Mother is now home to die...i now have another doctor involved...mine..poor man just got it today...
I love him dearly as MY doctor...but he shakes his head when reading reports on my mother ...

You have no idea
Has anyone else found this?
I may add my doctor is the BEST!

My 92 year old mother passed away three month ago.....it was her time....there came a time when Drs were not going to help anymore....it all became about making her as comfortable as she could be....I was there when she went...as much as any death can be said to be good, hers was.

My grandmother (my dad's mother) died a couple years ago at the age of 86. 6 years before that, she had a massive stroke and lost the ability to speak or move on her right side. Doctors wanted to put her in a home and gave her 6 months to live. She lived 6 years in her own home! She died peacefully.

Fred, I'm not all too good with words, but I hope your situation doesn't go any worse and that your mother is comfortable.

I know how you guys feel. A few years ago, my grandfather passed away, and he was, I believe 88 when this happened. But, he had four strokes before this happened. Two were very serious and third not quite as bad, all at once. Sent him right to the ER, lucky to survive. After recovery, he seemed ok, but the damage was already done. It made him less motivated, and he stopped doing the things he loved. As the years went on, he was less and less motivated. Then, in the last four years, he had alszeimersm, and wound up in a resting home. Later on, the doctors felt that he was ok to be at home with supervision. But, less then a year later, he had a minor stroke which didn't show up on exray, making his fourth one. After that, though, the doctors said that he had to live in a resting home the rest of his life. Soon after, he had an ulser which got fixed. But, was hospitalized for a few days. So, little by little his condition kept detoriating. Towards the very end, he stopped talking at once, and didn't remember anything. Right after that, he got pneumonia. And, a couple of days later, he passed away. He had a very good life, except for the last 10 years. The bright side, though, is that he's no longer in pain or suffering.

I'm sorry you lost your mother, Fred. At least she was where she wanted to be surrounded by people who loved her.
I don't know if it's better when they go suddenly like mine did or if it's a long slow decline like my father is going through now. Either way it's a part of life nobody wants to go through but everybody has to.

@bears: My condolences. Sorry to hear of your loss. My mom died at 98.5 years from a bout with Alzheimer's disease. The last couple of years of her life was not good and when the end came she didn't know night from day, which I suppose was good. Death is as natural as birth in the order of things. My thoughts are with you.
