![]() This is another example of racist hate crime in the same area. |

![]() Rather, it sees it as raw material from which a narrative can be fashioned. From that narrative, the media then advances an agenda. |
||
|
![]() The news media earn their living by reporting the news and in order to survive, they have to create a good narrative story but the final interpretation is done by the readers depending on who the readers are. |

![]() If the news was reported like the current weather, that would be news without an agenda. i.e. it's raining. a man was brutally murdered. just the facts. In the above links...the conservative tribune report appears to be more of a blog than a news source. I read that "source" as an opinion to start. The headline__ Where's the media?__ signals the agenda. The fox story that you linked is better, but the story is complicated by the facts of the murder and the opinion/feelings of the Bosnian community. The final interpretation is done by the reader, as you correctly point out. The fox story seems to be an example of a news report mixed with a report of an opinion. i.e hate crime? And so, it's in that opinion area that fox gets into it's agenda of sensational reporting. |

![]() They earn a living by selling commercials. Commercials are run by companies and people that know there is someone they have targeted in the audience. The more targets the better. And more expensive the time. The Super Bowl being the perfect storm of commercial airtime. Therefore, in order to get more viewers, reporters sensationalize. They editorialize and use language that promotes feelings that are extreme. Extreme feelings pull in viewers. And commercials are sold. There is no question that the news is reported by a very few sources that happen to have considerable liberal leanings. Just as talk-radio has considerable conservative leanings. Neither one is presenting facts---they are selling commercials with stories people cannot turn off because they are emotionally involved. In Ferguson, there is a huge incentive to emotionalize and dramatize the events because people are tuned in personally and emotionally to the events. The other story is uninteresting because the media has little interest in creating a stir about something that doesn't speak to their agenda. So, they don't report it or they report it bluntly and without much fanfare. You see, the killing of a young man means nothing. The killing of a cop means nothing. The undertone or scent of the possibility of racism, however---that means everything. There is no reason to report black on black crime because people DO NOT CARE! There is no reason to report on the death of a cop because people DO NOT CARE! They care about racism---wether it was part of the story or not. They care about color--because they are TOLD TO CARE ABOUT COLOR. We are screwed. All of us. Until we no longer see a racist crime but a human crime. The loss of a black child at the hands of anyone is a tragedy. The loss of a white child is equally tragic. The killers are not nearly as important as the lives taken. When Americans value the lives of human beings and not the color of human beings, then we will be better off. Until then, murder is unimportant unless the right colors are involved. Then that is all that matters. The powerful and wealthy have a stake in the news. They use it. To further their respective agendas. If they are liberal they push that. If they are conservative they push that. I am unaware of a network that has no bias. I don't believe one exists. It couldn't sell commercials because it wouldn't get people emotionally involved or tell stories in ways that drag the public, grippingly, to the events they want to publicize. You listen to this if you can... youtu.be This man is golden. He is so right. dok |
