Open Borders
I wanted to get this started, as it is IMPORTANT! Sorry for interrupting the other threads. Ha.

Seriously, I am confused and concerned why anyone would advocate for “open borders”.
Could somebody please explain what the benefits are?

I have itemized several times what some of the drawbacks are, and I’ll do it again if need be.

Those in favor of open borders please explain WHY and itemize the benefits. There has been a lot of criticism when I advocate for closing the border, so please explain the benefits of an open border.

I agree. Our borders need to be well closed.

One benefit I can think of is that other countries will let us visit them. If nobody can come here it might be hard to travel elsewhere.

I certainly don't advocate closing our borders for isolationism; merely closing our borders more securely so nobody can enter without our approval -- just like other countries do it.
Our guests would need to have a visa and valid passport, etc; and they would need to submit to an investigation before we opened our (secure) gates to them.
Isn't this the internationally accepted protocol for border crossings anyway?

The problem is that we officially "opened our borders" for commerce and the fat-cats, and it is now a proven failure and security issue. It's gotten way out of hand!
We know that our southern borders have always been inadequate for keeping the unwanted out and we need to fix that.
We know that the mechanics of securing our borders will be difficult and expensive, but we believe that it is necessary and worth the effort.

Ya, its because of businesses that our borders aren't closed.

Seriously? You really think that...as evidenced by what exactly? I realize the answer will take us off topic...but I don't see any real reasons for an open border.

You may be interested in another identical thread on another club site that softy started on Oct 3 that has 32 posts and a wider point of of view. Why do you do that Softy?

Not everybody is member of both/all clubs. Why do you ask?
