Has 15.....Nc5 been considered.

I think Nf6 is too risky and unclear, as i think the reply would be pe4, leading to exchanges which i do not think are in our favour. but we have to move the nite, and i favour Ne5, as it is pretty secure, and gives us a forward outpost, which will not be easy to get rid of.

Why risky and unlear tactics
I agree Nambam that nf6 is risky. However that is the point. If is risky and clear to us imagine how Martin is feel? Though, Martin is a highly rated(I have great respect for him as we have gone to battle against each other), the way to win is to throw risky and unclear lines at them. You prepare yourself for refutations lines, lines tat lead to a win and lines that are draws. I hope this makes sense.

That's an interesting idea. Actively encouraging the e4-pawn to advance which is exactly the opposite of the other move. I still prefer Ne5 but happy to go with the flow.
|
|
that is true what u say Terence old son, but i have played Martin in the past too,and i know how good he is. he also stated in the past that he cannot be surprised as he has a program or data base or something called chess-base, which he claims is the font of all chess wisdom,so i am a it wary of going down that path. neverthe less, this is an unrated game,so i wont lose any sleep wherever we go. regards,Morgan

I did not know about martin's tech use. You then are right not to go down that route. Nf6 meant to trap human players.

ChessBase is simply the largest and most complete database in existence. It has many capabilities that are too numerous to talk about here. I want to point out that using databases is legal on GameKnot. I have ChessBase 15 which is the current version. I paid $400 for it. So it is pricey but if you’re serious about getting better at chess this is well worth the money. It is highly doubtful that you could come up with a line that I could not find a good continuation for on ChessBase. There are other capabilities including the capability to run powerful engines on very sophisticated hardware but that is up to you and your integrity not to use these. Martin

I hope you did not think i was accusing you of anything untoward Martin that was not my intention. in my eyes you are an honorable and honest man and an excellent chess player, who does not bend the rules in any way. regarding chessbase, i did consider buying it myself, but was put off by the exorbitant exchange rate, plus bad experiences with download purchases from overseas sources. I have an extensive chess library including 'Game Changer' which explains "Alpha Zero"the most remarkable chess book i have ever com across have been studying it for a few weeks, and it is beginning to revolutionise my ideas of chess strategy.

Martin
" I want to point out that using databases is legal on GameKnot. I have ChessBase 15 which is the current version. I paid $400 for it." I have a database question? If your in a game and by what ever move say move 3 or move 12 or any in between The game is out of book! Does your database prevent being out of book? I need to do my research on chessbase. I know there are online chess databases. I know GK has 2 databases, theirs and what they call World. So my question is do you use a database that is never out of % for each possible move?

"Alpha Zero"the most remarkable chess book i have ever com across have been studying it for a few weeks, and it is beginning to revolutionise my ideas of chess strategy. " I have heard about Alpha Zero, Does Alpha Zero tell us the best move for 15? I hope we can continue to make our next move, regardless Martin with have the best possible move no matter what we play. That is fine! I just want to have Joann to make our next move Ron

the book "game changer is about a chess engine called Alpha Zero, which taught itself chess by playing against itself, and after a few hours became capable of defeating the best engines in existence, and has an elo rating of close to 4000 and rising. the book contains hundreds of games, analysed and the thinking explained in great detail, comuter against computer, comparison with games of the legendary masters, past and present, explanati on of Alpha's style, which is eerily reminiscent of Kasparov. it s a great book, and is certainly changing my chess outlook. as to current game, as i said I vote for Ne5 for reasons explained earlier.

15. Nf6
After all this discussion I believe nothing will be better than 15.Nf6 Is it risky? yes. will it throw Martin off? probably not. As to the Alpha Zero book I want to read it! I'm ready for a new chess outlook! Thanks for sharing Morgan my vote remains 15.Nf6 Ron

It has been said that Magnus Carlsen only spent about 1.5 hours a day on Chess but according to Jon Edwards in his wonderful book on ChessBase this time was spent with Chessbase. I certainly believe that it is possible for a dedicated user to progress very far in this manner. Do not download this! I got my copy from Chess Central in disk form. It consists of about five different DVDs. Martin

chessbase
all GMs use databases, yes even the top corr player do it.
|
|
I think Magnus has spend a lot more time than 1.5 hours a day on chess. If you watch his banter blitz videos on youtube he talks a few times about having been a very diligent student of chess and having read lots of books of sideline variations. I really recommend his banter blitz videos for anyone who hasn't seen them. Getting to hear the world champion discuss his thoughts on each move is very interesting. Good to see you back by the way elyhim

16...c6

Game Changer
I have started reading the book “Game Changer”. I want to add that this program has been ported to the public domain and is known as Leela Chess 0. It is available to the public from ChessBase as Fritz 17 with Fat Fritz. More on this later. Martin
|
|
Fat Fritz
Will Fat Fritz make the same kind of impact on the chess world Alpha Zero has made. We will see. This is not an easy program to run. It will probably not run on your home PC. It requires that you have a RTX 1080 TI installed. This is a pricey video card. The cost is $1100 plus. Two cards will perform better than one. It uses Cuda cores to pull data from the Internet much faster then the CPU you might have could. It is too early in its life to pass judgment. Martin
|
|
that is very interesting Martin. At that price anyone who bought it would in my opinion have rocks in their heads. I find the book itself very interesting, and has somewhat improved my perception of the board as a whole, aand bein primarily a book person,I find it o.k. to understand.
|
|
Fat Fritz will run on cheaper Video cards but with a loss of Performance. Martin

Does anyone else agree with 16...c6?
Hi everyone! Simon has suggested 16. ….. c6. Does anyone else have a better move? P.S. I find the talk on databases very interesting. With kind regards, Joanne

I'm interested in what Dave thinks, but otherwise, I'm more then good with 16...c6
