Bruckner, Anton (1824-1896)
Austrian composer Bruckner is my favourite composer for symphonies.

Although Beethoven and Brahms are my personal, overall favourite composers.

Bruckner's 7th Symphony in E major is my favourite symphony of any composer, followed closely by Mahler's 6th Symphony in A minor 'Tragic'.

A few years ago, I got to hear a live performance by my local orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and it was an incredible experience, one I will never forget.

I especially love the top heavy first two movements of this symphony. Simply sublime!

Interesting. I haven't really listened to him before; found the 7th on Youtube and has it playing right now. Would you kill me if I called him a somewhat more accessible Mahler?

PS: I have heard a bit of Mahler, but he isn't - quite - my cup of tea. Bruckner sounds somewhat more interesting, at first reading.

No, I would not kill you.

He is often compared to Mahler. Although most find Mahler more accessible than Bruckner.

For me it was the opposite. I fell in love with Bruckner more quickly than Mahler.

But I love Mahler's symphonies as well, very much so!
