![]() The 2nd movement from Franz Schuberts unique String Quintet in C major is, if not the greatest, then certainly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know of. Schubert, who died before his 32nd birthday, was extremely productive. The String Quintet was composed only 2 months before his death, and I think the 2nd movement shows that he knew his fate. This piece is also interesting because it is a Quintet, due to TWO cellos! One cello plays themes as if it were a "second viola", whereas the other plays bass accompaniement. www.youtube.com |
