Best computer tablets?Other info needed...
I am from the old school so I know next to nothing about these computer tablets that have come out over the most recent years.I was thinking of buying one,if they can be turned on alot faster than my regular PC and possibly I may want to have an additional tool to surf or check my GK games out, plug in some moves, ect while i'm using my regular PC for other issues which require my time in other directions.

Does anyone have one of these tablets in the club?
And I have Verizon DSL.Wonder if I can simply share the same DSL without incurring additional charges for internet usage through either wireless or plug in to the DSL box?

Also wonder if I can be logged in to GK simultaneously with both my PC and my tablet?

Those tablets look pretty cool,so maybe i'll get one,but not if i'm going to get a double internet bill!

Ipad
I would definitely recommend an Ipad. I use my iPad for work. But I also play a lot of Gameknot games on it. That works great. It's no problem when you have GK opened on your regular computer or tablet at the same time. Loading time goes fast with the ipad. Of course that also depends how fast your Internet connection is. Do you use a "router" for wifi? If so , more computers or tablets can use the same Internet connection at the same time.

I have wifi being used for my girlfriends computer in the other room, which is through my verizon DSL 3G.My nephew set that up for her and I.But I assume I could also just plug in the ipad direcly into the router, right? But there would be no additional internet charge if using a direct plug in to my router or using wifi, right?

Again, your chatting with a novice here!
I'm having enough problems already....I just lost all my sound for any internet audio, like if i want to watch something on youtube or if i want to hear the movements in a GK blitz game. This just happened. So I reinstalled adobe flash player and java again, but no luck.

Yes you can connect an ipad easily to your router. If your router is secured ( what I would recommend), you just need the code. For example a wpa-key. Often the wpa-key is written on the back of the router. I don't think the provider will charge extra. When you have an Internet connection you can always install a router and use wifi. You just pay for the router. Well that's how it works in The Netherlands and many other countries. I'm not sure for The USA.

Your computer. It could be that your computer has a lot of rubbish like spyware, malware etc etc on it. Have you ever cleaned your computer? I would recommend ccleaner. You can download it free on Internet and cleans your computer ( no data of course). I use ccleaner twice a week. It keeps my computer fast.

Another option is to reinstall windows again. But make a backup before you do that. My suggestion would be to download ccleaner (the free version). It works perfect for me.

I'm not an it-expert. Just picked it up from colleagues and friends.

Thanks alfred,
I've already done those things with the cc cleaner and AVG anti virus things but still no sound. But then just today I was able to get sound from an online video, but 5 minutes later another video...no sound!Strange.I have not loaded windows again.I'm not going to do any more.I just tried the "system restore"and ended up with an even slower loading speed system with IE shutting down some of the sites I go on,luckily, not GK.

My nephew said that he will completely clense the hard drive and wipe the computer clean,so to start over like a new computer. But that will take,he said a few hours or all day by the time everything is loaded and prgrammed in again that I need. He's the expert, not me,so i'll have to wait till he does it in a few weeks when he has the time.

Hi TA,
I'd have your nephew install linux fedora lxde.
It's very light, fast, and you don't have all the problems from windows.
You can plug as much as you want into the router and there's no extra charge.
The only charge is for the bandwith, and that stays the same.
I'm also interested in a chess computer tablet and don't know anything about them.

Thanks John,
I'll discuss that with him.He won't be around for a while.I have some serious issues with IE on my PC.I know next to nothing about IE,Chrome or any of the other major carriers.I was getting slow loading, white screens appearing and it took like 10 minutes just to get on any site! And I have a quadcore! No,no virus and I used CCleaner and disc defrag,no change. So,just by luck,I found a way to load "google chrome"as an icon, not even being registered on chrome. And wow, everything works like lightning again! So,i've found a way to bypass IE.I should probably delete IE and load it again because it is probably corrupted in some way,but i'll wait because I may do something wrong and not be able to get on to GK for a week and then lose my 3 remaining games. So when those are finished,i'll experiment!
Computers are a learning issue with me yet. When I was in High School, they did not have computers.

I know nothing about chess computer tablets, but alot about tabletop chess computers.I have a post on that you can look at anytime!

TA,
You can download linux on a dvd free from the internet, or get a ready made dvd from ebay for just a few bucks. You don't need any virus software or cleaners with linux.

I'll check your tabletop chess computer thread. Thanks
