![]() So you may be thinking, well thats why blitz chess is "garbage chess" to me! Well, did you ever hear the phrase..."ones mans garbage is another mans gold?" Blitz chess has many values and yes, some negative values as well. But its positive values can include short range tactical practice in quantity...something you may not get enough of in your long corresp games! |

![]() Notice blacks 4th move already....4....Be6.Theory states that exchanging pieces when having the advantage of so many point values is usually an advantageous way to proceed.I agree, but only to a point. It really depends upon your own "inner chess strength" and a judgement call on the power of your opponent that you as black must make. So,sure, set yourself up for exchange, but maybe not so early, for I may very well have something "evil"planned for you!Exchange later! And guess what 4....Be6 does? When I take your Bishop with my Bishop, look where it now leaves blacks King! Its not in a very good position and has caused many an opponents downfall in blitz with Knight forks and more.It would have been better to not move blacks Bishop out at all yet, retreat blacks King to a better safety square and build up some more centralized forces before beginning the exchange game.In any case,i'm not going to annotate each move.In the end,I wittled his points down and my position was overwhelmingly superior with a mate in 1 by the end of the game. But he let his clock run out for the last 20 seconds knowing his game went into the smelly Chinese dumpster behind the building!Close that lid, now! ![]() No need to annotate this game below, since I doubt anyone will look at it anyway with much interest,so I will just keep it as another monument to myself on some rainy night and gloat! Why the heck do I play these Queen sac games anyway? To brag? No.A superiority complex? No. To make a fool out of my opponent? No.To laugh at my opponent and stick my tongue out?No. Then why?To prove that the conventional wisdom of many players that think they must or shall win being up tons of material in point value(like a Queen)has a huge flaw in it! One must understand their own inner weakness's on the board before simply assuming they shall, must or even "probably"will beat a 2500-2600 player in blitz. All it takes is simply a few quick tactics,forks,pins,ex-ray attacks and other ploys to overcome many players on the board, not just beginners...but many players even as high as 2100 in rating. And I have proved this time and time again. Its my way of forcing some opponents to stop being overconfident,to raise a red flag in front of them to bring out their weak play on the board and to show them where and why they went wrong. Many excuses are...well,if I had more time...ect ect.Sure, most players if given 15 minutes or an hour would find many of their own flaws(but not all). But then, they agreed to play me in 5 min blitz, not 15 minute or 1 hour! And I would not sac my Queen in a 10-60 min game! So,if you buy into my poker game, you better be able to back up your skills and not chat nonsense to me,like i'm a fool for sacing my Queen and that I will get crushed now!Hmmmm...have I heard that 10,000 times before or was it 14,000 times? And then I went on to win 18 out of 20 Queen sac games in 3 or 5 minutes? When I respond back to them in the blitz chat(not this Kansas guy),i'm just speaking in general and say..."what was that about you were going to crush me"?What usually happens is that they put their tail between their legs and disconnect from my board at hyperlight speeds either in anger, disgust, disbelief or shock!what they should be doing,of course,is going back and examining their game with me and spot the areas they flawed on.Sometimes it might be something as simple as a few even major piece exchanges(if they can, because I tend to move away from the exchanges...ahhh a secret revealed!).So comprehending your tactical flaws in blitz can teach a lesson in your longer corresp games...well,sometimes anyway! ![]() In this Queen sac game of mine,I take advantage of my opponent not retreating his King properly and not moving into safety, then I attack his King and force him to move his King deep into my territory all the way to square a3 by only move #20!Anyone show me a GK game either blitz or long corresp that you forced your opponents King into your own 2nd or 3rd rank in 20 moves or less, and even the abyss will bow to you! Now,this blitz opponent has no corresp rating and is still at 1200.But that does not necessarily mean that he "is" 1200 in strength. He could be less than 1200 or considerably more.I judge this player to be,perhaps 1300-1400,but then,1 game cannot be conclusive on that issue. ![]() This 1931 rated player in this blitz game was attacked by me with just about everything, including the kitchen sink! The power of my centralized rook on e1(which is a strong tactic in blitz play as well as corresp)combined with my killer knight fork was this class "A"rated players undoing. Some messages to me say, well, your wins are against only 1400-1600 players with your Q sacs. Not true my friends!I've had wins against 2200 rated as well, but just haven't taken the time to copy the games. So a win with a Queen sac against a 1931 rated player for now,is the next best thing! ![]() So,this sacrifice game I did for several reasons. To illustrate to the club members or others who scoff at my wins that even someone rated only 73 points below my 2511 rating can lose to me in a blitz game when i'm a whole Queen down in the opening.Another reason is to illustrate "smart"play.Which by my definition is to sac intelligently....my Queen, but get atleast a Knight or Bishop in return for the sac.... against a senior master. The 3rd reason would be to test myself and my custom blitz mouse which always keeps an edge over opponents in blitz.Speed kills. And this game,it dosen't matter if agata was going to Queen 5 pawns,he still would have lost on time.Is winning on time as good as a mate? Not quite as good,I agree, but against a senior master when I intentionally sacrificed major Queen material in the opening...well,yes,then its just as good, especially if I evened up the game mid way through!!!! game started! ![]() As you can see,I not only gained all my points back after his blunder on his move #38....Rc5 and then my move 39.Rxc5,but its my opinion that I have a small initiative for a potential win,but that,of course,is argumentative. With only less than a minute left in the game, however,I was not going to try for a direct win,but use the opponent time-out strategy that I am a pro at.By move # 50 or so,he had me in a mating net,but keep in mind that was ONLY the case BECAUSE from move #38 with the game relatively equal,I decided to roll the dice and play for a time-out of my opponent, rather than play positionally for a win. When one plays strictly for an opponent time-out with the clock running down to less than 10 seconds on both sides,it dosen't matter about mating nets, like a mate in 5.If my opponent has 4 seconds left on the clock and he has me in a mate in 5,its very difficult(many times)to get 5 moves in within 4 seconds. So the technique in a case like that is to shuttle my King around in split second thrusts like you can see I did.So I won by 2 seconds on my side when he timed-out. But in this blitz game, whats more important than my win is how I managed to equalize against a senior master by move #39(combined with his rare blunder). After that equalization it simply became a clock race....and this type of race separates the men from the boys.Super speed techniques require multiple tons of practice and the proper type of mouse and slippery surfaces.Learning how to "throw"your piece faster than your opponent takes sometimes years to master. |

![]() No...the question is..why are a good number of players from 1200 to even 2400 losing to such weak, silly moves?Yes,with many blitz opponents... I simply have a knack to time them out,not win by mate, but that is still good enough for me,especially if I gave my Q to you from move #3!Just timing-out a player being a Queen down,is extremely difficult, believe me...in 3 to 5 min games! So why are these players losing? And the lesson goes on and on and on....Find the answer and you will have snatched the pebble from my swiftly closing hand, grasshopper!Need me to post some of my losses?Sure! If that helps...but it will only be 1 out of every 20 blitz games or so,even with players up to 2200 in rating,or higher.I have no problem with that! All of these blitz gems have a hidden lesson to be learned in them.Take my advice on that! I'm not playing these sacs to make a fool out of my opponents but challenge their preconceived notions that strong material advantage, even being up a Queen should, will or MUST defeat me.Wrong! My Q gift to you will do you no good(in blitz anyway)if you are weaker than me in strategy, tactics and speed....and that goes for all ratings. Some players may have a 2400 corresp rating, but they may very well have only a 1900-2000 equivalent rating in fast blitz due to not really practicing blitz over the decades like I have.A trained eye in blitz is a totally different ballgame than some 3 day per move time limit game! And just because some player is 2300 rated in corresp or OTB,does not mean that they will play blitz on a 2300 level....see? And the "pebble" is still in my hand below: [Event "GameKnot Blitz"] [Site "gameknot.com"] [Date "2013.07.07"] [Round "-"]5 min, zero increment. ![]() Now,I played this opponent before and his rating on GK is still at 1200 because he has not played any regular GK games ever, even since 2006!But again,as I said before,he is no actual "1200"player.I estimate him to be in and around 1600-1700 in strength.Still, even at that rating, one should have some knowledge on theory regarding opening up files too early and exchanging their Bishops in an open game....a no no!What was that I said about Bishops in an open game?Don't trade them in...right?Right!But my opponent did this Bishop trade early in the game below and paid the price. Go through it if you want or don't.But atleast you get the idea of not what to do in the first few moves using this quick blitz game as an example! The same would apply to your long corresp games. Its best to keep your Bishops in an open game and watch out that you do not open any files let alone 2 files as Bob did in this game.Yes,opening up files is sometimes actually a good idea, but not when your Bishops are gone and you have no real counterattack capability! All he did is give ME,not him the counterattack strength! Here comes the hairy foot the size of 10 baseball fields with razor sharp toenails 25 feet long...watch out!!!Ahhhhhh, help!
