![]() "Welcome to this club Jeremy! Some of us havd benn waiting for someone to share their thoughts." Edward, not meaning you, because you have had some contributions...but as to thoughts being shared, only a small handful of members in this club actually share or even attempt to share their thoughts with chess or other subjects, they remain silent.Even with jeremy joining(and i've known him for a few years now from the GK forums)this will not change anything much.Yes,he is a good chatter, but this will not be suddenly the magic bullet to break the ice with club members!Sharing thoughts and asking questions about the game is critical,if one wants to improve and learn.Look at all the posts I have created so far. There is always room for input and questions even by those club members who know very little about the subject matter in the string! Some of the posts are as excellent as any regular forum posts can be(atleast the chess ones). The other posts are just "fillers".For me to get even more involved with additional diagrams, examples, chat and more,I have to "see"that there is a trickle of interest in my own posts....or even other club posts by elite chess club members so that I can join in.In addition,I see either little or no posts being developed by anyone else. And some members have not even introduced themselves, even though its been weeks or months since they joined....so really, there is no excuse that "they simply don't have the time".To say hello?Ha ha!Then why did they join?See my point? Just having a "club competition"as other clubs are doing to invite annotation chat is ok,and I have never said i'm against it,and others in the club are totally free to do so.I personally will not get involved with that very much however, since I believe that tournaments will not necessarily improve your game play based upon annotated "opinion"about a move being better or worse than other moves and then take a vote on the move.Take for example, 5 players in an annotated tournament game and most,if not all the players are around 1500-1800 level. They can all agree and chat about this move and that move being the "best"and then initiate the move...but was it truly anywhere near the best move?In many cases no.For most of those players have lacked the foundation of theory and even playing 500 annotated games, may not really and truly improve their actual game play! You might think it must...but not necessarily! And thats why i'm here to improve your game play and other annotations outside of this club...to think back about what TA said once about not putting that Knight on the edge file or not exchanging Bishops in an open game and THEN making the BETTER suggestion in future club vs club games or outside annotations beyond the Elite Chess Club. So,i'd rather,in this club discuss and have input by the members the subjects of chess theory, tactics, strategy, point values, questions and much more to better "attack" and assist the quality of ones game play, rather than have a continual social game between members or other clubs. How does that go?You should learn to walk before you run?Its many times better to finish a private GK game between two players and then "go back"and analyze that game step by step....BUT with players who are atleast several hundred rating points above the two initial players,so that a better, more accurate assessment of the game can be made.I,or marmalite(when he gets back to the club, because he is at present a non premium member again)are the best choices. But after this summer,i'd be happy to assist in any post game analysis. But even this interest has not come forth,so then, there is nothing I can do! But in any case,it should not take a club tourney or annotation to suddenly get more members involved in chat! Well, the bottom line is that this club is "experimental". I will give it till next May,2014 when the dues are "due"again. If I see continued lack of interest and input from present/future members that just sit there and remain silent,I will disband the club.Sorry, but its the only logical thing to do.You guys, not just me,make up the "fabric"of this or any other club.I see tons of chat in the political clubs, but thats not what this club is designed for.I see more chat in the chess opening clubs, but they do indeed have hundreds of members...this club is kind of new...and its a bit illusionary because those other opening type chess clubs higher "inputs"are mainly from "tournament"games. The really important subjects on openings and theory many times only have a scant few responding....and out of over 200 members!!!!!!! So,think about that!!BUT they are responding, which is important! So again,i'm giving all members a free hand in this club. You don't have to be a moderator to start any post,to join in or ask questions whether your 500 rated or 2600 rated! And yes,i've helped out a few 2600 rated players with their games(but not on this site). How is that possible when i'm only 2500+rated?Hmmmm..just ask!Ha ha! So,please,no one take it personal, but just look down this clubs subject posts.Who's name do you see behind almost every post?Mine.I want to start seeing others getting involved and mixing it up in conversation with other club members with chess and even non chess related subjects. You guys may not know it,but this club is probably the best club on GK!Which other club do you know of really gets involved in the lengthy reports/posts and strings that I write out regarding chess theory and deeper ways to improve you game play...especially using a senior masters input?Perhaps none!Yes,there are subjects discussed in the other clubs, but usually not in the same formatted detail that I present. And really,i'm just getting started!!More input from others will mean even MORE input from me.Just my links alone will direct you in reinforcing my ideas, help you, rather than have you scan the internet for info...i've already done that for you.Without mentioning names,I see a 2500+player in another club get involved with game play a bit and a very small amount of chat, but his "real"input and suggestive way to improve your game play is HIGHLY lacking!!!!And his posts are usually one liners that do little to gain a better handle on the game! And he writes nowhere near(not even fractionally)about the best ways to improve your game, theory, tactics and more....like I do.Just playing fun games and making a few scant comments...well is not enough...no matter how highly he is respected! But again, its not only me,but you guys that make or break a club. Remember:May 2014.The clock is ticking and on probation! Good chess to all! TA |
