Captain Away on Vacation
I think we can have a thread where team captains and co-captains can let multiple other teams know here that they will be away for a time. I'll start, since that is what's going on with me. I'm just gonna copy and paste what's on my team page: "IMPORTANT NOTICE: Team captain (of TRITON) joveyboy1 will be on vacation from May 13-25. During this time, he will not be on Gameknot, and team challenges may not be responded to until his return (Due to uncertainty on my co-captains). During this time, to avoid long wait times, it is advised teams NOT challenge Team TRITON until the captain returns. Sorry for any inconvenience." I do not mean to put my co-captains on the spot or anything, but I seem to be doing all the work at TRITON, thus this is why I am advising no matches to the team during my vacation, but that's up to all of you of course. I'm just informing everyone so that I don't hopefully come back to teams hating me because I didn't respond to their match lol

I like that threads, and believe it or not, I am going away two days before. So, the vacation starts tomorrow. I will be away, for about, a week.

What I do is just leave in the team thread which wasn't started by me, btw. But, it happened right after I, temporarly left. The thread is called, "Changes in Management" where the co-captain, who was for a short time captain, posted. But, I stuck that to the top and posted that I would be away on that day. My belief is that coordination is also important.

Have a great vacation joveyboy1!!! Hey.... by the way... which one of your co-captains will blindly just set up matches with any player I send? Also, could you tell me the times of day this co-captain of yours is typically online? Why'll your away, I will try to "help" out your team with some "training" team game matches. You know... something like my 1800 guy against your 1500 guy.... to give him some pointers. Just don't forgot to send me the above info that I need. Thanks.

@tekoah
Which team? The reason I ask is that there are two Joe's, and both are team captains.
Edit: I think I understand. I'm actually leaving tomorrow, and return on the 17th, so what makes it coincidental, and it's the first time I've heard of this on GK, but it has happened at work before. But, what makes things special is that two captains are going away, on the same week.

Good vacation to both of you!
Well tekoah, from what I've seen, none of my co-captains have done anything, quite possible, within the last month, however, I have one I may be able to get more active. I'll get back to you on that before I leave Wednesday. Hey Joe, I hope you have a good vacation as well
Well, I don't know if he'll do anything, but my most likely co-captain to do something is deuxbroi, but he's not online often.
With what I've gathered, you can all try if you want, but I won't make any promises that they'll respond to the matches. If I can, I'll come on Gameknot while I'm in New York, but that depends how my schedule goes and if I can find a computer. Darn, I wish I still had my laptop lol. I guess we'll see, but I'll be back at full force by May 26. See you all in about 13 days!
Well, I am back. Wow, didn't think I'd be back online, until tomorrow. But, I got back about 2-4 hours earlier then predicted. @joveyboy1: what you said about co-captains is very typical. My co-captain tries his best, but you can't always get a match if he was busy during that time. But, how do I know that co-captains don't set up matches? Well, without going into any details, only 10% was due to experience. But, the main reason, however, is that petemellor told me that, unless it's the captain him or herself, it's very difficult to near impossible to get a match.

I am officially back! Well, I tell you all something, my co-captains proved me wrong! They held down the fork very well while I was away, to my delight . I agree Joe, I have even noticed on many teams a co-captain will be on, but when a match is sent, you have to wait for the captain to come around. Oh well, it takes patience for many to be a captain, but when you have a well-oiled team with a strong captain and strong co-captains, it makes it all the more easier, for both sides. By the way, if anyone was wondering, I came back a day late because I missed my scheduled flight. It worked out in the end, but next time I'll set my vacation flag an extra day lol

"They held down the fork" ...with Pasta? I do hope they didn't gain too much weight.

I think, he meant, fort because the saying goes, "Hold down the fort." I am glad it worked out for you. While I was away, the co-captain of my team also did an outstanding job. I thought, that I'd be I'd get 3 or 4 matches. But, there were times where I got that much in just one day. I estimate that the team got, about 10-15 matches.

"hold down the fort?" ....never heard of it... now, holding down forks we do all the time... Smiles, Alex
"hold down the fort" means taking care of things, or handle it yourself. For example, at work you need help for a while. But, then they say, I have to go help someone, so they say that you have to, "hold down the fort." The same thing could be said with team matches and when you go away. That's because it's generally the captain that hands out matches. But, when that captain is away, they leave the co-captain so they "hold down the fort" since they're left in charge of matches. I guess what you learn is what joveyboy mentioned. That, if they're really experienced, that can match players when the captain goes on vacation.

I too, have never heard of "hold down the fort." But "hold down the fork" is a very common saying.

Ironically, until this thread, I have never heard of the latter saying, but I guess, it means the same thing as, "hold down the fort."

In fact, my team has, what is called, the Player of the Month Honoroll where you honor things like top player by rating, score, etc. But, sometimes, a special honor is thrown out, where you do it for someone you're proud of. Doesn't always happen, but in certain, it does. Well, for a first time, ever, the same player got it twice in a roll. And, it was the co-captain. Last month was when I left, for the obvious reason. But, this month, however, had to do with going away on a vacation because I was AFK for, nearly, a week. And, he, once again, did an amazing job in holding down the fort, so I gave him that Special Honor as it shows that he is an amazing co-captain. This is especially true when you consider that he's the only co-captain I have, so far.

Away on vacation again
I'm going on a 4 day vacation. My co-captains should be able to take care of challenges just fine, like last time. If there are any delays though, I'll be back full force again by Monday! By the way, after all this time, I just noticed the reactions to my "Held down the fork" comment lol. I've been lazy with paying attention lately
I hope you enjoy your vacation, Joe.
Ah...nice to be young and enjoy life...go for it..and don't stress about the team.
Yes, I feel the same way as Fred.
Thanks! It was much shorter than New York, but still sweet! I definitely wasn't worried about the team, and as I thought, it held out pretty good. I'm sure it will be the same case when I g on vacation later this month. Yep, yet again lol

Believe it or not, I'm going away, this Friday for a weekend. I do this once a year, though, to a fair where a lot of excitement occurs. So, I'll be back on tonight, but then, that's it until Sunday or Monday because I'm packing tomorrow morning. And, I must work tomorrow night. Then, I'm leaving the next day for the fair. But, I will come back on Sunday, and if it's early enough, I'll be back online. If not, it'll be on Monday.

Captain of Team TRITON also on Vacation
I hope you have fun Joe! I am going on vacation as well, until Monday, so I won't be in charge of team matches while I'm gone obviously. Anyways, I'll see you all when I'm back from the lake!
Thanks, joveyboy1. Yes, I just came back. It was a lot of fun, and this was my favorite year, at the fair.
Glad to hear! I had a great time at my vacation as well, although the weather forecast was way off. Darn humidity and 100+ degree weather . It was still great, but it's a shame to see just how bad the drought has affected the lakes. The lake I went to was 66% down. Common case in California. They better hope what they said about that El Nino is true. Anyways, I shouldn't be on vacation for a couple of months now, so until then, TRITON is at full swing!
