Good. I hope those are captains who are inclined to be lower on the ladder.

Not sure as they seem to be middle to toppish   end of ladder

I just eat my last toffee, I had about 4 and now I really want
another one

As far as I can see Mick at the team the Force is the best at the moment at making matches!

Why

Its because he keeps following the golden rules!

Try to keep it fair and make lots of matches!

Incidentally Mick at the force team is assisting a new co captain who is trying
very hard for the team.
He the new captain and I have not got on very well as he makes complaints
about me to my captain haha
I really love this new co captain and I have only good thoughts about him!
He is SOOOOO dedicated, smart and unique in many ways!

The new co captain has bottle and manners and he
is a pot of gold for the Force Team!

Well done Mick and the Team!

What's in his "bottle" Jimmy. Is it hard liquor or beer?

Good one Shirl

This is another one that kept me giggling well after I went offline.

You make me smile Shirl

The new force co captain and I made a match up today, but he had to
give me a telling off lol
No doubt about it, he likes to have the final say after there is an
issue or a misunderstanding.

If you don't think they are fair, Jimmy, keep on turning them down. I intend to.

Kings of the Castle
Great news as the Team which I assist just got to number ONE!

My job as a Co Captain is to assist in any way the Captain
and the Team!

the-jim
03-Dec-17, 15:14

Not so good news for me :(
But Great new for the "All Stars Honoured" Team!
They just won against Knightmare and knocked
my Team into position two.

Good wins too by the players, I had a look!

shirlmygirl
03-Dec-17, 16:01

All Stars does what you suggest and do, Jimmy. Get all or most of the players paired up.   I know I can rarely find a good pairing with them for that reason.
the-jim
03-Dec-17, 16:10

Its the way to go Shirl's and I know that GK will be loving this!

Totally go all out and match up all your men! I am very honest
to other teams about my tactic's! I like competition.
Stick with fast players against fast players if possible
in two player matches. Like you do Shirl!

I am touching teams who are far away from the number ONE spot
and they are responding by doing somethings which I hint about!
I see teams who have been here fore years and who have drifted.
Becoming alive again
That's it alive and kicking

I have a good suggestion for team captains. Don't make statements on your challenge sheets that are offensive to other captains, and are apt to put captains off from wanting to pair with you. Also, don't use shady tactics to get your team to the top of the ladder AND STAY THERE. You might attract my attention and that of other captains.
the-jim
03-Dec-17, 16:25

Who is doing that Shirl!
Or cant you say.
Or is that just a suggestion like you stated!

Jimmy

I will say no more at this time.
the-jim
03-Dec-17, 16:39

You should say Shirl as you may be worrying innocent Captains.

It is a fact that some Captains well lots are just doing their
thing... And then you will say something and spook them out!

Obviously no offence intended, but I do think that some
Captains are doing things which might appear to be close
to the edge of reasoning, but are within the rules!

Jimmy

Innocent captains don't need to be concerned. They know who they are. But I do think you should be careful with your praise, Jimmy.

I feel Jimmy is right. I should say something about my post suggesting shady tactics because I don't want to cause apprehension among captains. I also am reluctant to name a team if it appears that the captain hasn't broken any GameKnot rules because I don't want to damage a team's reputation unnecessarily. The following is a situation I encountered quite some time ago.

One day I responded to an open challenge. Since, after a good while, my response had not been answered, I took a look at the team. To my GREAT surprise, I saw that the two people in the open challenge were both paired for 8 team games. There is no problem pairing a player for that many team games usually, but in this instance, the players were non premium and only had two available games. I was disgusted. I messaged the captain and told him how I felt, and that I had never done such a thing myself. I am fairly sure that he did not respond to my message. What I surmised by this was that the captain threw out the same challenge to several teams and then chose the match that suited him best. Certainly, it was choosing matches to his team's advantage. I have not challenged or played this team since that day. Unfortunately, I can't find the message I sent to him in the private messages file because sent messages are only kept for a period of time and then deleted. My message to the captain has been deleted and I can't accurately say when this situation occurred.

Surely this captain will know who he is, and I can't say that he has continued this practice because I no longer pay attention to his team.

Challenges
I'll issue a flurry of challenges, and when I check back the responses I take first those I figure provide the best advantage. Is there something wrong with that? I take the trouble to pair and name each game, and if the opponents I chose are selected and no other team captain has responded--off that game goes.

Most of the challenges I receive don't have players named and even though my guys may have green dots I don't like to load them up.

I cannot figure out what Shirley is talking about.

It is not working for you, Pasha, because I haven't seen you at #1 nor anywhere near it.

Climbing the Ladder
While rising on the ladder is fun, I've always been more interested in sitting high on the table. We were in the top ten, reaching fourth for a bit there. My cocaptain arranged a lot of matches that pushed us up on the ladder, but if you are not finishing matches you slide, whereas the table position remains fairly static.

I know I started out talking about team strategy, but why I mentioned you is because you were disgusted by the fact two non premium members were both paired for eight team games (I assume you mean open challenges), but only had two available each.

I never even look at that, because I generally don't try to max out my team mates. I want everyone to have four to six games--and only give them more if they beg. I don't think you're going to get up the ladder very far doing this--especially if you accept challenges from teams well below you. I know you don't drop far when losing (one rung?)--you drop because other team victories push you down.

It just seems like a scramble and really, I'm more focused on my players learning and personal improvement over ephemeral ladder marks. This was my cocaptain's position also--even though she got us higher than we had ever been before.

What is Disgusting
about proposing multiple matches when you can only take two? The other proposals all get cancelled when those are filled. I've seen my own proposals cancelled when one of my team mates accepted a game or their clock went over two days or any of a variety of reasons--as well as plenty of other challenges getting terminated before I have a chance to reply over THEIR team member games getting filled.

You propose six or eight matches, and the first two who accept cause the other four to cancel. Who knows how long it will take their team captain to respond? I have had open challenges sit unanswered for weeks--and I've failed to answer some issued me in days.

Number One
Incidentally, congratulations are in order--I see you hit number one in April and again in May a few times. Pretty cool! Your strategy appears to be working very well. Most of the time you're in the top 20.
lord_shiva
05-Dec-17, 13:26

Who is at Number One?
None of the top 20 teams has fewer members than you (at the present time) except Speedtouch, who is at #20.

Lots of team mates means lots of matches can finish in short order--especially if you only take two member matches. I think the reason for stipulating that is to make it easier to climb the ladder.

I don't view that as "disgusting," but you had something else in mind and I honestly have no idea what it is. Please don't consider this an attack--you are an excellent team captain (proof is in the pudding) and despite how long I've been doing this I still have a lot to learn. I know I come across as obnoxious and abrasive--character flaws resulting from a different upbringing. You had something in mind when you wrote that and I still do not understand what it is.
shirlmygirl
05-Dec-17, 13:34

This probably is a good subject for discussion. What I do with open challenges, which I place all the time, is to consider the response. If I don't like it, I decline and then reissue the challenge. As I said, it is not against GameKnot rules to have multiple challenges for players. What offended me was that those two players only had two available games. And no, they were not all open challenges. But I certainly turn down challenges I don't like. And I don't issue multiple challenges for the same people. Personally, I think the Team Table means very little in view of the way that one team held the top of the Table for so long and the manner they did it. They still advertise it on their team page.
shirlmygirl
05-Dec-17, 13:45

My strategy is FAIR MATCHES, Pasha. Usually, the only matches I get that are in my team's favor are as a result of open challenges, and I assume the opposing captain knows what he or she is doing.
lord_shiva
05-Dec-17, 13:55

Open Challenges
Ah, I almost never look at those or post there. We prefer fair matches also, which I determine by comparison of current, 90 day, and all time ratings, and a few other factors I won't get into here but you have been instrumental in helping me determine some of them.

I think it is fair to say the lady in the woods with the small chess team seems to know very well what she is doing, seeing as "Redeemer" spends so much time on the top twenty rungs.

In review the Mountain Men have played Redeemer three times, games that all finished a year ago. We lost the first match, drew the second, but emerged victorious the third. Overall--even.

I started searching this on your list but after four pages was still in recent months, and realized I need to search Mountain Man history instead. Our seven years of game results fit on ten screens or less.

The cancelled game list only extends back to about August, and I remember distinctly you rejected one of my challenges for being rude, obnoxious, abrasive, and insulting. I'm not proud, just stating facts. You didn't say it wasn't fair, as I recall, so I count that a big plus.

One Table Position
Yeah, like a metastasized cancer that team sat on the table's pole position far too long.

shirlmygirl
05-Dec-17, 13:58

I see my team is #71 on the Table, and my team was 121 the other day, I think. I don't even care. I don't think my team does either, but I am sure my team likes to be high on the Ladder.
