Matchmaking videos
Years ago (in July of 2014) I created screen capture videos using Camtasia to teach future co-captains how I make matches. I was, myself, a co-captain of my team at the time, but as I have re-watched the videos, I have found that I still follow the principles today from those videos.

I shared the videos with Steve via PM. If you would like to see them, PM me and I'll send you the links. I don't think that sharing this info gives my team any disadvantage, because you as a captain may disagree with my philosophy. But I have used these videos ever since to train my co-captains. They can watch them at their own pace and ask questions via PM. I have found that the "watch me do this" method helps with the learning process.

Like most things in life...
making gameknot pairings is mostly about common sense, honesty, mutual respect and reciprocity. While visiting our son in Seattle, my wife Lily (queenforaknight) and I ferried/drove out to Port Angeles to meet shirlmygirl. Let me assure all of you that she is delightful. Stubborn and headstrong? Of course, and utterly delightful.

LOL
While I have not met her yet, I knew all this about her already.

Added some color and info about available players to my program.

It's now very close to my target. All teams are also listed in the same order as they stand in the ladder. Order can be updated once in a day.

A link one more time:

@tapanis
Many thanks for your kind and clarifying reply...

Well, you need to pick your team as team 1. Then you need to psh "Select" -button.

There should be listed all available players from your team then. You must pick those players that you want to pair.

Last you select opponent team as team 2 and push "GO" -button. There should be a list of all available players for your players after that.

In my previous post just thought that I should maybe make it a bit easier, f.e. progress right after selecting a team. And more clear instructions to the page.

Thanks, 5imon ! Didn't get the point that my link was not a link! Usually it transforms to a link automaticly, but maybe it needs http in front of it.

This is brilliant.
If you're planning to continue making any changes, it would be great to have a link where my team was always pre-selected as the first team. Perhaps /POTKI at the end.

You need to add a parameter to a page address:

www.tasdata.net/GK/index.php?Team1=2058

Works also for other teams ...

Hi Tapani, where does that number come from, i. e., where can I find the number for The Brights? Thanks!

ORKNEYLAD
Thank you for the nice compliments Mike, and also dear penelope80 (Laura), and lord_shiva and mikemate. Yours and your dear wife's get together with me on two different days was extremely stimulating to this old lady, who is not used to visits by captains and co-captains, and I was so tired last evening that I went to bed early. It was good to meet you both. " Stubborn and headstrong?" Me?   or Moi, as lord_shiva would say. I think I quoted his expression correctly. No doubt he will put me right if not.   Shirley.

I will have to go through this thread again. There is good information on it, especially tapanis' chart. Will do that very soon.

To Tapanis
I like what you have done!
I expect you won't be surprised if there are suggestions for tweaks & features, and here's mine, based on experimenting yesterday:
* Above the "Go" button, add a selection box in which I can pick an integer number, then show the results for that number of teams, starting with "Team 2". This will eliminate the need for me to pick each team to be examined.
Thanks for your effort on this.

@saguaro
Yes, thank you for a good idea! Need to think about it while I'm bit concerned that GK might block this program if it generates too much load to GK-server. Basicly it would be just one loop in a program so should not be too difficult.

One another solution might be processing next opponent from the GO-button without any selection. That might be more simple way to make it. I think I'll try this option first. Maybe next week I can try this.

I like the program ...
But

what's next .. let the computer play the game ?

A program picking matches ... what is the point ?
Is making matches really that hard ...

"Is making matches really that hard ... "

Not hard but wait until you have done it for many years. Not to mention my aging eyes.
