As for donating the salary--not impressed. We've known from the beginning he intended to profit off his office, and that $100,000 a quarter is a pittance against what he has made. Mar-a-lago memberships were running at $100,000 a pop before the election. After he bumped them to a cool quarter million, and sold about 240% of capacity given many of them were purchased by Japanese and Arab businessmen hoping to buy access. He had about 200 members in 2016 and couldn't make the 500 cap. What is 300 times $250,000? I make it a wee bit more than the $1.2 million he will earn from four years of golfing while president. Speaking of which, fees alone he has charged the US government easily exceed his total salary. And as far as country clubs go, he owns lots of others. Bedminster, Charlotte, Colts Neck, Hudson Valley, Jupiter, Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Westchester, two in Scotland, and two in Dubai. Congressional Republicans also threw him a nice bone granting tax breaks and concessions to golf clubs and private jet owners. |

I Stand Corrected Obama did not golf at all his first 8 weeks in office, while Donald (who criticized Obama heavily for golfing) played 11 rounds his first eight weeks. Obama topped out at 306 games during his eight years. 11/8 * 52 = 70 games of golf per year for Trump, or 200 games so far. In four years he will only manage 290 games, coming in just under Obama's 8 year tally, at his initial rate. I do not know if he has picked up his game since being first sworn in--I suspect he has. Good News / Bad News On the other hand, the bad news is that both prophylactic and early onset treatments have not revealed any benefit. This result is disappointing for two reasons. One is that hydroxychloroquine is fairly cheap to make. The president might be making a lot of money off it, and control the Pakistani supply, but so long as he dies not try to make a (literal) killing we should be able to treat a LOT of people quickly. The second reason lack if effect is disappointing is that the drug is already approved or other use. We are familiar with the dangers and side effects on otherwise healthy subjects. I wish the results had turned out better, and that the president was not imply a snake oil con man. |
