I agree with Mike. I am tired of trying to find good matches. But it is easy to throw players out to teams and hope that decent matches will come your way.
I brought my style from another format , I have been doing this for quite awhile now ... but your right my eyes are ( just about) ok ... hanging in there ! As I say I like this idea but matching within a 50 or 100 range is only part of how I work , there is more to be taken into account ... a lot more
I think that if we did have a method of finding suitable players quickly, then we would look at those players more carefully to make the final decision.
There's nothing wrong with throwing players out there ... do it when the "other" Captain is on line , if they go off then send another to a Captain on line .. one will get accepted , some Captains prefer to pick there own anyway You can easily decline if they don't work , If it was sent in good faith add a note explaining your decision

I was not referring to you in any way, Neil. Be assured of that. I know you very well. However, I was referring to one captain, who I have recently placed on ignore. He said to me "do you want me to give you the match?". I did not like that remark, and took offense. He has so many players on his team, he can't do anything else but "throw them out". I told him I didn't want his matches.

Do not mess with Shirley 😁😉 ! I think it's called sticking to your principles ! I think I can take an ( uneducated ) guess who you mean and if I'm right it's probably best I keep my mouth shut as he is a friend ... lol 😁

Making Matches
It isn't difficult, but it is time consuming and prone to error. The program by Tapanis takes out a lot of guesswork and really facilitates the match up process. It is a great leap forward and you can be sure I will be using it.

Looks like GK has blocked my program. It was fine as long as it worked! 😁

I cannot understand the why of this block...it was something useful...it was an improvement
It might be blocked also by my web-page host. Don't know yet details. Main problem must be heavy load on server. Although I think it should not be too much.

Now it works again! Maybe some temporary problem. But I don't dare to make any more changes while more automatic system would increase the load to GK server and it's not allowed to make "excessive" load. Now the load is same or even lower compared to manually searching good pairings. But must wait if GK has anything to say about this.

Tapanis
I just used it to help set up 2 matches. Sure reduces eyestrain in scanning team rosters to locate potential opponents. (I use it on a split screen in conjunction with a spreadsheet containing the up-to-date details for my team members that I'm trying to match, so I can easily compare potential opponent data with ours.) Thanks!

I tried to put the file into my personal files this morning to access it that way, and got this message. So we might have to enter the site through this thread. I am not sure. Please advise. I also tried on my other browzer Google, and got this response, so it may not be GameKnot who has blocked it. I am not qualified to know. Might be warnings while it is http instead of https. At least you don't need to give any private info to run the program. All the info in the program is collected from public GK-sites. I'm running Chrome and it works fine. But looks like it is an open line that can be monitored.
I will try https instead of http and see what happens. Thanks tapanis. It is certainly a great tool for us.
On second thoughts, I think I did type in https as I copied it from GameKnot club link. I will try them both again to see if I get the same response.
Oh wow! It came up on both Firefox and Google without the s in https. http only. That is exciting. No warning. I don't know how to use it yet, though. I need to experiment.
TAPANIS
Does this mean that if we access it this way, it won't go through the GameKnot servers? And will it be safe from hackers, or will hackers be able to trace us, and access our private information? Perhaps you don't know. I have Norton on my computer.
HTTPS
Yes, for secure HTTP you add an S and any sites lacking certificates will issue the warning you received. I think secure site content is hashed and the hashes compared to ensure it isn't compromised. As Tapanis notes, so long as you're not feeding credit card numbers and such you should be perfectly secure--and your browser may detect attacks on your own software and data--the known exploits.

A pause
Asked from GK support not to block my program and got a reply that it's ok as long as the load to GK server is not too high. So I need to rewrite my program. Now it takes a real time situation for teams/players, so the load is too much. I need to change it so that it reads the info for each team once in an hour or so and use this data as input for my code. I have used this idea already when updating team order accordind to a team ladder. I need to close my program for a while but I hope it can be in use soon again.
Sounds good, tapanis. Thank you.
Tapanis
Your new version looks good - I appreciate the new "NEXT" button to go to the next team down the ladder (without opening the team list and selecting the next one)!
Thank you, Dave! Still optimizing the controls and hope to make it a bit more reliable. It has jummed for me twice now, but revived both times after an hour or so. I guess it is due to too many loads per time to GK server. So need to perhaps allow only one opponent at time (now there are 1-3). I also sent a wish to GK that this kind of function would be very nice in GK-pairing system. And they may freely use the idea if they like to.
Tapanis
I hope you will allow at least two opponents at a time! My challenges always have 2 of our members. When their ratings are close to each other, the program sometimes matches the same single opponent to both. Currently, I can see this immediately. If you only allowed one opponent at a time, I would have checked out the first one before learning that the program found the same opponent for the second one.
I meant opponent teams. No problem with players within one team, while all data will be within on page. All players that suit the given range will be listed under all selected players.
Thanks, sounds good!

@tapanis
Keep up the excellent work! I think GK would be crazy not to take what you've done and run with it. You've done all the design work for them. Maybe they'll hire your and you can just make the change for them. I''m sure you'd be able to do it quickly if they'd hire you on as a consultant and access to their code base. Impressed!!! thanks again, Steve

I have not tried Tapanis' system yet. I plan to do so very soon. Other captains seem to be excited about it. Is it still working well for those who are using it?
