Requesting/suggesting players by name in challenges
1) Do you request opposing players by name when sending a challenge?

2) Do you ever assign a different player than requested (cannot state why unless direct message
to opposing Captain)?

3) Would you prefer not receive challenges with suggested names?

4) Do you prefer to send or receive challenges?

Challenges
1) yes i do request players by name

2) no i leave the players the same, if in a 2 player the odds are in my favour with 1 player and not the other i leave it as it is ( a bit of give and take) unless the other captain is having a laugh and stats are way over in there favour then i would decline.

3)no i prefer players names. i have had captains send our team 3 names and i could not match none of the stats came any were close. (the excuse that i did not have time or i was busy is not an excuse in my book you want the job make time)

4)I do not mind.

Also if i have 2 or 3 spaces to make challenges and i allocate a player to play a match i do not touch that player again until there match starts. (it do's not always work when other team members come on duty and use the same player for another match and that player can only play 1 match.)

Challenges
1. Yes, If there is a small pool of players to choose from, otherwise probably no.

2. Very occasionally if I feel a different player is more suitable

3. My team is relatively small so it's not a problem if names aren't suggested.

4. I like both.

Challenges
1) Do you request opposing players by name when sending a challenge?
Yes, although I clearly indicate that this is just a suggestion. This hopefully helps the opposing captain, but it also helps speed my acceptance of the challenge as I know I have already checked out any suggested players in the reply. It also helps my co-captain as he knows that replies with the suggested players have been approved by me.

2) Do you ever assign a different player than requested (cannot state why unless direct message
to opposing Captain)?
Yes, if I feel I have a better suited player, I will substitute that player. I expect opposing captains to do so as well.

3) Would you prefer not receive challenges with suggested names?
I prefer suggested names. This makes my job much easier.

4) Do you prefer to send or receive challenges?
I have no preference. However, I have a very active team and I do not receive enough challenges to keep my team busy, so most of my team matches are originated by me.

1) It does make sense that if a Captain takes the time to make a match they should suggest
opponents by name. Looks like all of us that posted suggest names, including myself. Mostly
I want to avoid very slow players, high timeout %, and of course, the grossly underrated.

2) I also will assign a different player or decline the challenge (99% of the time with a message).

3) Prefer suggested name.

4) I still prefer to send challenges (when time permits).

In thinking about assigning a different player than suggested, it would be nice if there was an easy
way to explain the substitute. This may be where some Captains have disagreements.

I appreciate it when a reason is given for declining a match.

1. I never request names on challenges, but that's mainly as I use my phone and like to not type unless I want to!

2. Sometimes you have to assign another player, feels like a lot of my players have specific rules, 3 days only, or a specific rating range etc.

3.Getting suggested names is no problem as I see it.

4. Both are fine

Searching
Not only do I request names, I show the difference in both current and 90 day ratings for each green dot opponent I name. I also suggest acceptable alternates, when available.

GK could improve the search algorithm so easily, requests I made years ago that remain ignored (not even a polite "go to heck").

For example, you can search for players with team ratings, but fully half the hits have dropped off any team. I'd like a "current team" option--GK must know--and a "green dot" option. Way more than half the hits either haven't moved in two days or have their dance cards punched.

These features could be made available only when captains/cocaptains summon the advanced player search. For everyone else they could just be off.

This would so greatly assist in recruiting. Click "team off" to winnow out players already on a team. More than once I have been accused of "poaching" when extending invitations to players where I simply overlooked the fact they were already on a team (sometimes they were the captain!)

I've gotten better at double checking that--popping open dozens of windows on recruitment drives and closing all those where the team is filled. Or using the "team score" box, which is sort of useful (though it eliminates those who dropped team membership).

I think I had a third feature that would have proved useful also--but these two in particular are no brainers.

Always provide a reason for declining a proposed match. Also, some teams cannot be matched at all--it would be nice if GK explained that somewhere BEFORE you go to all the trouble of lining up players, subtracting scores, and keying in the request names. Really sucks to go to all that trouble only to be told "this team cannot accept matches at this time."

TELL ME IN ADVANCE SOMEWHERE!

My Methods
I hope it's not too late for my thoughts:

1) Q: Do you request opposing players by name when sending a challenge?
A: I always do, but I need to change up what I say, it's getting to repetitive at this point

2) Q: Do you ever assign a different player than requested (cannot state why unless direct message to opposing Captain)?
A: If I do, I try to send the opposing captain a message why I have to change up. More times than not though, I don't have a good substitution, but then when I decline the match, I'll tell them why and look for a possible alternative match. If that doesn't work, I put that team in my notes to try to challenge again soon.

3) Q: Would you prefer not receive challenges with suggested names?
A: I'd rather receive the names, provided the offer is reasonably fair. If others send matches for certain players without telling me, I can often tell who they want no problem, and usually it works out. If not, then I'll do my same method I mentioned in 2.

4) Q: Do you prefer to send or receive challenges?
A: I prefer receiving challenges, but I can't get the matches I need that way, thus I send out matches, quite often now in recent weeks. I'm using the Advanced Player Search a lot now actually. It's been very beneficial for finding matches I need for, really, all of my players! I am enjoying that

Admittedly there is one thing I hate. When captains decline a match with nothing to say, then as far as I'm concerned, that team is a waste of my time and I'll never send them a challenge again, unless staff changes, or they decide to send me a challenge down the line. Thankfully this issue isn't all that common, as everyone in this forum as well as most captains out there are polite, but I take offense when the opposite happens

I try to look that there are suitable players available if I send a challenge. But you don't know if they will do 3 day games. So I ofter make a note: "open for other players also".

I try to make open challenges for two player matches. This has been "easy way" to find matches. Would be helpful if it were possible to set more than one open challenge! At least if your team size is very big. For example one open challenge for each 40 players or so.

I feel I need to fix something I said. I don't like not getting anything with a declined match other than silence, but that doesn't mean I hate the team or anything. I may not send a match for a while, but I'll always accept a match from that team. I am a bit discouraged to challenge a couple teams due to what I said earlier, but there's not a single team on Gameknot I won't take a match from

A little late to the party, but I only had two days off from
work since May.

1) Do you request opposing players by name when sending a challenge?
A: Always

2) Do you ever assign a different player than requested (cannot state why unless direct message to opposing Captain)?
A: Rarely, but always with a follow-up PM.

3) Would you prefer not receive challenges with suggested names?
A: No. Suggestions are prefered. "player1 and player2?" is good simple form.

4) Do you prefer to send or receive challenges?
A: Receiving is prefered, but both are good.

I will send a decline with no explanation if I think it's ridiculous or I am
short on time - especially on open challenge responses - but rarely do I.
My pet peeve is for an opposing captain to regularly substitute in higher
players for my suggestions - then I will lose interest in challenging them.
Declines are always fine for any reason, but to try to pull a fast one -
tricking me into a tilted match - is not something I look favorably on.
(The captain who used to do this consistently is no longer a captain.  )
