19...Nc5 (ptitroque, nambam, thelitelixir) 19...Bb7 (5imon, tbre0022, stalhandske) Which means that we're tied and 19...Bb7 will be our move. I will make the move in a few hours unless anyone would like to discuss it further?

let's discuss it further, please :-)
... this could do with some more agreement, I believe.

If 19...Bb7 20. b4? Qxb4

Simon
Yes, you're right. After second study, I believe that Bb7 could do the job. But we are a bit cramped.

The scales appear to favour ...Bb7
It appears such...

suggestion 20. ...Qe7
I think we have a fairly stable position considering that we have (as black) started with the very difficult Dutch defense. In my experience the Dutch requires immense patience from black, even more than in the French defense. Currently, this is positional play at its best and white obviously plans to double their rooks on the c file. In this position black needs to "see" the threats, but at the same time slowly work at the strength of the Dutch, which is K-side attack. I suggest 20. ...Qe7 for several reasons. Taking our unsupported Q away from the dangerous d file, providing support for our Nf6, which may need assistance, and opening an indirect attack line towards the white queen on the d file. Also providing indirect support for our LSB. Finally, this mobilises the black queen towards the K-side!

20... Qd7
agreed for the reasons given by Stal

20...Qe7
is good for me. Thank you for the detailed post Stal. Very useful to see your thought process - especially as I generally lack the patience for this kind of position and do something impetuous.

20...Qd7
I fully agree with Simon's post above.

New position RoW turn to move!

Our queen and our rook on f8 are nicely lined up for an attack by the opposing DSB. I suggest that they will see this vulnerability and capitalize on it. I suggest we remove them from that line of attack before they move Ba3, therefor we should look at something like Rfe8, or maybe Nc5. Our queen is really boxed in with very few safe moves. We need to open up some options for her as a matter of priority. Nc5 would be a start. I seriously consider Nc5 for now.
|
|
Ba3 will be coming and we'll need Nc5 in order to do something about it but I think we can wait for them to play Ba3 first. I'm thinking 21...Rc8 in order to contest the c-file or possibly even Ne4 to try and be slightly less cramped. For the moment my vote is 21...Rc8.

21....Rc8
I think both Riaans and 5imons suggestions are very good. At this point I prefer the latter. We have time to "take" the c file and need not yet worry about Ba3
|
|
Rc8 gives the queen one single extra safe space to move towards, with a possible attack by Kc6 if our pawn moves by chance. I am uncomfortable with that.

21...Rc8 (5imon, stalhandske) 21...Nc5 (riaannieman) We need some votes from the others.

there are no really good moves, but Rc8 seems best we have, so that is my vote.
|
|
Rc8
I also vote for Rc8 that is the best move
|
|
21... Re8
seems the best move, indeed.

I believe the opposition is going to move cxd5 or Ba3. There is also a possibility of Nxd7, but I think it is lower on their priority, because of the higher value of threat it poses in the current position as well as the fact that it restricts our queen a lot. If they move Ba3, are we going to respond with Nc5? If they move cxd5, what do we do?
